 Not eating..

i got my baby ghost around the beginning of july, and since then it’s only eaten once for me. temps and humidity are fine inside the enclosure, and the enclosure measures 18"x18"x18". he’s shed once since i’ve had him, and measures about 14". when it did eat it took a f/t pinky, but now it’s refused ever since then. i’ve tried warming the pinky with a blowdryer, braining, leaving the snake in a deli cup over night with the pinky in a warm spot, and i’ve even tried feeding a live hamster pinky, and still nothing. ( now i’m left fostering the darn little hamster...) the only thing i can think of is that the enclosure is too large and the little guy’s stressed, would it be worth it to move him into a small critter keeper until he starts eating? any help would be great.

i’m measuring temps and humidity with a digital thermometer and digital hydrometer. temps are 80-82 on the warm side and 75 on the cool side, humidity is right around 50%.

when i thaw the pinky i put it in a plastic bag and place it in warm water until it’s thawed, i use the blowdryer to warm it up right before the attempted feeding.

Enclosure looks nice!
What kind of bedding is that? looks like awfully big wood chips.

Do you feed In the enclosure, or out?

You are feeding it Hamsters?
Hamsters are not a good choice. not only can they get expensive, but are more like "candy" to snakes... or at least to BPs, I dunno if Corns even like them.
What happens if you can’t get them any more, and the snake refuses anything else?

Mice or rats is what Most use... that could be your problem (the hamster).
Get mice (or rats) as prey.

Do you blow the blow dryer Toward the enclosure/feeding container? Some do that, it’s called "scenting the room".
How often are you offering prey?

it’s aspen bedding, and that’s an old picture, i’ve since switched to aspen snake bedding which has much smaller wood chips.

i’ve tried feeding both in and out of the enclosure, the only time i had a successful feeding it was in the enclosure, i put the pinky inside the flowerpot hide on the warm side, on a piece of papertowl to prevent any woodchips being ingested, but that only worked once. i’ve tried feeding in a critter keeper, and now i’m trying the over night deli cup method.

i only tried the hamster once, usually it’s f/t mouse pinkies, that’s what it ate when it actually did eat. i went to the pet store looking for a live mouse pinky to see if the little snake would take that, but the store didn’t have any. one of my friends who works at the store said they had a hamster that just gave birth, so i bought a hamster pinky just to see if the snake would take it, which it didn’t.

i have tried scenting, the snake seems interested and investigates a bit, but then goes back to trying to find a way to escape from the feeding container. usually i place the pinky in the deli cup then place the snake inside and put the cup someplace dark and warm. i’ve tried tease feeding with tongs, but that just seems to scare the snake.

hmmm ...ok how old is the snake?
How Big is the snake ?
(pics?)
Sorry if I sound like I’m picking on every little thing...
Corns are not known to go off feed, and are usually fairly forgiving
when it comes to "husbandry mistakes" (not saying there are any).

*sigh* I would try again to feed on next feeding day, then if it still does not eat, you
probably wanna consider taking it to a vet... you have tried everything, and I can’t think
of anything else :(

i’m not sure how old it is, i got it on the 5th of july, and it’s about 14" right now. the pinkies i’ve been trying are only slightly larger than the girth of the snake, so i know the food items are not too big.
these pictures are from when i first got the little guy.

i’ll try one more feeding and if it’s not successful i’ll make a vet appointment, i’m lucky enough to have a good reptile vet 15 minutes from my house.
