New Addition
Well I have seen this guy/girl a few times in the pet store. It has been there for at least a month or more. (8 in a 10 gallong tank!) Some of you probably remember me talking about them being fed crickets..well this is the one. I am guessing it is about 5 months old because it is around 18 inches long. The owner of the store told me it was nippy but I have had no problems holding it in her store or once I got it home to put it in a new tank. Maybe it was nippy to her cause she didn’t know what the h@ll she was doing.
I am pretty sure this is an Anery. And I have no idea if its a boy or girl. Trying to find a place to probe for me.
I will get better pics later when it has settled and ate.

New Addition Yes that is an anery, Becky - very nice! If it’s 18 inches long it could be as much as a year old if it wasn’t fed properly, on crickets. A lot of pet stores tend to underfeed them anyway to keep them small and cute, but this one was obviously particularly bad.
Congrats on the new baby!

New Addition Thanks Jessica. I do love its color and its pattern. I had been looking to try and find a corn that was a little older for a while. They are very hard to find here. This one I have handled several times in the shop and have grown very fond of it.
The tank had the proper set up and it has no mites. Although, there was concern for how it was being fed so I asked the owner when it last ate. She said it had fed on Saturday and she feeds it f/t pinkies. Like you say- probably under fed to keep smaller because that’s too small for this size corn. With that being said, makes me wonder if because there were too many snakes in the tank they were too stressed to eat so the woman was trying anything, crickets. She has never had hatch lings in the shop, always ones about the size of this one.
To be honest I think it boils down to this- the owner has no clue how to care for snakes. In my opinion if she owns the pet shop she should be knowledgeable on the animals she sells. One good point is the shop is always clean and the other animals all seem very healthy. The cages for the mice, cats, dogs, lizards etc. are always clean with very little feces if any.
And I have made it a point to inform her that they don’t eat crickets! LOL

New Addition Good for you! At least she doesn’t sound totally horrendous, though she clearly has some things to learn. I hope she took your point about the crickets. I think to be honest even a lot of the "good" shops and even zoos have cages that to my mind are not quite clean enough. I’m very scrupulous about animals as I’m sure you are - I can’t bear to see feces in the cage or even to see it looking grubby. I wouldn’t like to live somewhere like that and I can’t see that an animal would want to either. We went to a zoo in Kent at the weekend and I must say the cages were pretty clean and nice. They had lots of cats including snow leopards and clouded leopards, which had very nice clean looking large naturalistic enclosures, and elephants, rhinos, wolves and so on. The only cages which look dirty in most places are birds’ cages, but of course they do just defecate everywhere all the time so it’s very difficult! Birds in the wild live in feces encrusted environments on cliffs and stuff, but at least it’s in the open air so they’re not shut in with the smell. Anyway I’m digressing!

New Addition My husband told me yesterday that I didn’t need to open my own restaurant, which I have wanted to do all my life. He said I needed a pet store because I love animals so much. LOL I have 3 cats inside and 3 outside one has kittens-4. And I have 2 dogs and 3 snakes. I practical live at the pet stores buying supplies and holding all the animals. But we have too many kids for me to get much more. Maybe I can trade kid for pet- or make the hubby get me a bigger house. LOL Just kidding about trading the kids!

New Addition Aw cute! What kind of dogs do you have? Have you got pics of the kittens? I just adore kittens! Unfortunately I’m allergic to cat fur - it’s a real shame.
