 First corn anticipation thread.

I have my set up.

I found a breeder.

And on Thursday my new motley sunglow will be home!

Here is the enclosure set up, tell me if its ok, I’m worried there isn’t enough open floor space.

The snake is a 2007, so not full grown yet. That rock in the middle is for him to soak in. The side with the sticks has the UTH.

I’ll be posting pictures of Stolichnaya (the snake) later this week.

The setup looks as if the basics have been covered, although don’t worry about open floor space - snakes don’t like it! They like hiding away most of the time - you may find that you never see yours at first while he gets used to his setup. Later he may become more confident and roam around more. Is that rock a water bowl, then? Water bowls should ideally be in the cool end so evaporation is minimised. Do you have a thermometer to measure temperatures in the warm and cool ends? I wasn’t quite sure if that was a thermometer stuck to the glass on the right, but ideally you need a digital maximum/minimum, in/out thermometer with a probe to measure the temperature at substrate level both ends. Also, ideally you could do with some more hides, and tight hides - snakes feel secure in a tight hide against their body on all sides. My young snakes love empty paper towel cardboard rolls.

Good luck with your snake!

Yeah, that rock is a bowl, I’ll move it to the cool end since I live in Louisiana we already have a lot of humidity.

I think I’ll replace the cool side hide with a tube shaped hide too, that’ll also make more room for the water bowl down there.

I have a UTH with rheostat and a digital thermometer to measure temps.

My bedroom gets light from outside so I figure he’ll be able to tell day/night from that.

Thanks for the tips :D

Get a plastic dog bowl, it can double as a hide and as a water bowl.
