6 weeks since last feed. Help!

My female corn, Rosey, hasn’t eaten for 6 weeks. I’m worried. She is housed with my other snake, henry.
She looks fine and is very active, searching around the viv’. She seems to have several lumps on her lower half which i discovered by touch. Has anyone got some advice?
Thanks
HenryandRosey.

She’s probably gravid. Separate the two snakes immediately - you shouldn’t be housing two together - and give her a lay box of a plastic food storage container with a hole cut in the lid big enough for her to go through, filled with damp moss. She will probably lay the eggs seven to ten days after shedding, so look out for her next shed - unless it was in the last week or so, in which case she may lay imminently. You then need to do some reading and decide whether you want to incubate the eggs. I hope she is at least 3 feet long, or you could be in trouble. This is why snakes should be housed individually.

When she has laid the eggs, offer her a fuzzy or two to eat to try to build her strength up.

Good luck.

She’s probably gravid as Jessica already said. Make sure you put a "Laying box" in after she sheds which should be soon. And like Jess said fill it with moss or if you don’t have that us crumpled paper towel they work just as fine. Make sure you do some research, and are willing to pay the cost of little hatchlings.

6 weeks since last feed. Help!

my corn snakes are around the 3 year old mark, which i am guessing is nearly adult. the male is nearly 5 feet and the female is nearly 4.5’. hopefully this means that she wont become ’egg bound.’
after posting the origional post i have:

seperated the female into a 40x25x15cm plastic cage. she is living in a Exo Terra Snake Cave - Medium

Link

i have half -2/3 filled the cave with moss and have placed it on the cool side of the tank. does it need to be moved on to the heated half, because the temp. needs to be 24-28c? the cave is dark inside, which i was told through reading the ’reptiles keeper’s guide- Corn Snakes’ by R.D Bartlett and Patricia Bartlett, makes it more inviting to the snake.

Rosie has recently shed last weekend, does this means should be laying very soon and is slightly less active than yesterday and has calmed down considerably. i have also read that the female can sometimes get aggressive, but rosie is very placid- Is this normal?

a few other questions:

Do i need a second hide- one for the snake and one for laying?
Does the laying box need to be dark inside (i.e a plasitic box with a hole placed inside a shoe box)
If yes, does there need to be a lot of room for her to move?
What is a good size plastic tub?
What is a reliable type of incubator?
What is an ideal temperature for the female’s ’laying box’ to be at?

p.s. why shouldn’t i be housing two corn snakes together? As they have been in a 93x38x58cm tank, for nearly two years and they have not been agressive towards each other or to anyone. This is the first major feeding problem i have had.

You can get them offline, that’s where I got mine. You can also make homemade ones with heat mats and some other stuff you’ll have to research, you might want to look at You Tube they have plenty of videos available. She sounds like she should be laying anytime so be ready.

could she just have got pregnant because, they feel to be the size of a small grape. Also they shed within a week of each other. The male shed about two weeks ago and the female about a week later. does this mean that she could have just become pregnant? As i have read in books they shed at the start of mating season to get ready for reproduction. Does this inflict with her at the early stages of pregnancy?

p.s. do you know a good website for incubators to be bought from?

How long does it take for eggs to develop if she is at the early stages, so i know how much time i have.

What size do they approximately become?

Yes i do. I have a Styrofoam box, which is at 28 degrees Cent. the humidity inside the egg box is at 90%.

p.s. a tip with humidity, lay some moss around the outside of the egg box, about a 1’’ high, be careful not to cover up any air holes. then spray the lid of the egg box, with water and on the top of the substrate, be careful not to get any water on the eggs. After wards, spray the insides of the incubator, this will increase you humidity to between 90-100%.

just to let you know. With my egg box, i have filled it up with about 1’’ of vermiculite just to cover the eggs, and have then added 1cm of sphagnum moss over the tops of the eggs.

Thanks Andrew and i hope this helps anyone who reads this post
