Looks pretty cool! The only potential hazard I see is the cave type artificial rock hide up on the shelf. Snakes are much stronger than many people tend to realize. I always plan for the worst and hope for the best. If you are housing two snakes in this viv (I’m not even going to get into that), I can foresee one snake behind the rock cave, and pushing it off of the shelf and crushing the unsuspecting snake below. Sorry that’s just how my mind works. It’s Murphy’s law; "Anything that can go wrong, will!" I would feel better if you eliminated that cave from the elevated position. If you want a hide up there, I would recommend something very light. "Great stuff" or any expanding foam filler is really cool to work with, makes a great insulated hide, and is very, very lightweight. Once dry it is sculptable and if you dab on a thin coat of Spackle, paint and seal it....Tuh-duh...home made hide that looks as good or better than the store bought ones!
Keep us posted and keep up the good work.

I agree... and before you say, "I will attatch it or fasten it to the said shelf"

How will you Clean the Hide and or shelf when one or both snakepoop or pee in it (?)

food for thought :o)

Also... is that Light you have Inside the enclosure protected?

Covered or sealed ...so that one or both snakes can not curl up to it for warmth and get singed?

yh it is, it has a wire fencing thing that you can get to stop the snakes form getting round the light. the highest i have seen the fence get is 30 degrees C, too cold for a burn. also my light is on a timer, so it never really gets that hot.

Rosie has recently laid 12 eggs on tuesday and have put them in incubator.

With my incubator, I have a Styrofoam box, which is at 28 degrees Cent. The humidity inside the egg box is at 90%.

p.s. a tip with humidity, lay some moss around the outside of the egg box, about a 1’’ high, be careful not to cover up any air holes. then spray the lid of the egg box, with water and on the top of the substrate, be careful not to get any water on the eggs. After wards, spray the insides of the incubator, this will increase you humidity to between 90-100%.

just to let you know. With my egg box, i have filled it up with about 1’’ of vermiculite just to cover the eggs, and have then added 1cm of sphagnum moss over the tops of the eggs.

Thanks Andrew and i hope this helps anyone who reads this post

Have you read any books on Corn Snakes?

Have you read up on Breeding and Incubation?

Because it sure doesn’t seem like you have.

And the reason I ask...Is because every post of yours that I have read...Something in your husbandry is not just wrong but WAY wrong!

Like your incubation temps...They are wrong!

And if you do manage to hatch any at those temps...they will likely have a very high mortality rate (Death Rate) and/or birth defects!!!

This is too cool for corn eggs. You may be able to hatch out these eggs at that temp, but I don’t have high expectations for your clutch.
With such low temps, you stand to lose most of the viable eggs before they get close to the point of hatching.

Quote:

This you have correct. Sphagnum moss contains steric acid, which will retard the growth and development of mold, mildew and some bacteria. Of course it also retains moisture very well, which is also critical to the development of the eggs.
Somewhere in the neighborhood of 86 to 88 degrees Fahrenheit is what you should be shooting for.

I’m starting to see a trend here that concerns me. Although I appreciate your enthusiasm, you have posted some less than accurate information. I’m not sure where you are getting some of your facts, but I might suggest you refer to more than one source. Don’t take any one source of information as the final word. Research many different sources of information and look for consistencies.
Good luck and keep us posted.

Although I share all these concerns about Andrew’s husbandry and have said so many times, 28C is 82F, which is a perfectly acceptable temperature for incubation.

Also might add... those Dial type gages are too often inaccurate,
and beak down or get stuck on one setting.

Theirs always a few trying to have a dig on here, as for the incubater temps they are spot on and humidity should be 80-100% but 100 is better so who hasn’t done their homework? I am pretty sure we all want the best for our corns so there for read books and care sheets etc. Some people are more advanced than others and then you get the few who like to think they know it all but actually don’t know jack sh**t.

Not having a go or any thing just putting my facts across.

Love the set up BTW and your eggs are looking great good-luck with them.

I agree with this statement, Jessica. I personally haven’t hatched out any corns, but I know a breeder who has hatched many, and she only uses a room that’s about 82 degrees with no heat source. I’ve also heard other breeders say this on the corn forum before.

Andrew, good luck with the eggs!

Well that’s good to hear.

I would still recommend the Book I pictured above though.

Quote:

Oh, and if you say all of my information is incorrect then how about you point me in the right direction instead of saying this is all wrong.

Don’t take this personal...but I’m tired of spoon-feeding lazy owners. That was why I didn’t.

Now that it seems (since you do have a few books on Corns) that you’re not so lazy after all.

But new owners need to do some reading and research on their own and then come on the forum to ask questions to help clarify or "tweak" their set-up or care.

Quote:

Im not experenced. this is my frst breeding season, which wasn’t meant to happen.

Get the base of your knowledge in current books (like the one I recommended)...Ask questions on forums to improve your set-up and care...Experience will simply come in time.

Wisema2297, Jessica71 and Kojak are 3 people you should listen closely to!

And as far as this being your first breeding season "which wasn’t meant to happen"...THIS one of many reasons why you shouldn’t house snakes together.

Hi all...just gonna put my 2 pennies worth in ...86 to 88 is a little too high and may make your eggs hatch a little too soon..leaving you with poorly babies to care for....we all make misakes ..hopefully we learn by them as you are doing now.......jessica is spot on, in all that she has said..i trust her judgment and value her opinions..i have had 4 clutches, and lots of advice from jessica in the past and my clutches made it, only because i listened to good advice.
some of the eggs in the picture dont look too good..thats just my opinion..but as jessica said it doesnt do any harm to leave them in for a while..i hope you do have some babies out of this.. dont forget to let us know how they get on...btw..i have kathy love book and she does say that 82 is a good incubation temerature.. good luck..Diane

Nobody is trying to "Dig" on anyone smart-a$$!

From the "Books" that I have read and in my experience I have always made 82’ish the night time low and 86 - 88 the day time high when incubating.

I know quite a bit and I’m sure your childish comments simply come from your panties being all wadded up in your crotch!

Here is exactly what is written that is another example of where I’m coming from...

"I’ve seen eggs hatch anywhere from 72 to over 90 degrees with no ill effects. Stable temperatures are not as important as most breeders believe. In fact, recent research indicates that some variation in temperature may actually produce a more even sex ratio in the hatchlings and produce larger, stronger hatchlings."

And...

"Much has been written about incubation, too much in fact. In truth, a healthy clutch will hatch in just about anything other than the glove compartment of your car. The only requirements are that humidity be held rather high and that temperatures stay within reason."

Now if you want to make nice instead of being the jerk that you accused me of...fine! I can make nice too! If you read all the other post from the OP besides just this thread...You would have realized that this was new for them and I was simply providing guidance!

As was Kojak.

Again...Varying the temps makes for a heartier Corn Snake!
