 Not For Weak Stomachs!

I was looking for a solution to heating my mice faster than 20-30 minutes in water out of my tap, so I microwaved a cup of water for 2 minutes. It was pretty hot, but not boiling, so I thought I’d be okay. I put the mouse in there, and covered to cup in foil to keep it warm longer. After five minutes I checked and the mouse, and it felt warm. So as I began removing it from the bag, I noticed it was bleeding... let me tell you, it’s an incredibly unpleasant smell that not even a skunk can out perform. It’s incredibly strong and will easily taint a large room.

Anyway... I had assumed it was just a messed up mouse, but the thought about the water did cross my mind. Tonight I only microwaved the water for 1 minute, and placed the mouse in there. It didn’t explode... as bad, but the stomach tissue did still rip, and when I squeezed it to make sure it was thawed completely, it’s insides popped out, and it was very nauseating. I once again fed it to Hayden, who seemed to have a blood lust for these mutilated mice, and she quickly went to work on swallowing it, as soon as she got passed the rib cage, she squeezed all of it’s insides out, and it was a horrible stench.

The theme of this lengthy post: Avoid rapidly heating frozen mice. Microwaved water is probably not your best choice.

Lol! Yah hot water and frozen mice tend to make a bad combo! I tried that once and got the same result. And nowadays I still get the odd one that does that. I fill the sink with hot water from the tap and let them sit in there, every once in a while draining some water and putting in more hot.
I know some people who tried to micorwave their mice to thaw them, like you would a chicken breast or some hamburger...BIG explosion and mice baked on the microwaves insides...
Another tip to add:
Don’t microwave your mice!

Yeah. That would be even worse probably. Is it the air in the lungs that expands and bursts out?

The same thing has happened to me with too hot water (being impatient...), and like yours, my snake seemed to find the mouse with its guts hanging out even more appetising. The smell was disgusting!

From the Recent post "Frozen"

Quote:

* I put the mice (or rats, if you use them) in a cup/bowl of warm water
in the bag they were purchased in
(if you buy bulk - use heavy duty baggies/freezer baggies) till thawed.

Then run the tap water till it gets as hot as it can get and place the mouse in
the hot water till warm to the touch.
Remove From Baggie and offerto the snake.

*If water seeps into the baggie, dry the prey, so that no substrate will stick to it.

*Never microwave the water, as it can be too hot and Cook the prey!

*Never microwave the Prey, as It can Explode! *yucky mess - stinks to high heaven
(I never nuked one personally, but know of some one who did)

The only time it takes more than 30 mins is if I get distracted and forget I’m thawing, and have to rewarm the water...

As for the"bursting" ...hot water breaks down the Tissue of the Skin,
which makes it easier to split.
