 New to Corns

Hi All. My name is Rayna. I have 6 Bearded Dragons, 1 BP, 1 Haitian Curly Tail, 2 Leopard geckos, Emperor Scorpions....AAAAANNNNDDDD have just acquired 2 Baby Motley Corns. I am not new to RZ or to reptiles but this is my first post on the Cornsnake Forum. So, I figured an Intro was in order. I work in a Pet Store that is fixin` to shut down and my Manager told Me I could have both Babies for FREE!!!!! She wants to make sure they have a good home.
Here is a pic of my new babies. I have not named them yet....

You need to do alot of research, the two most ideal books are:

Cornsnakes in Captivity by Don Soderberg

&

Cornsnakes: the comprenshive owner’s guide by Kathy Love

Housing is sometimes and issue. Some people say dont house two corns together, but i do and i have had no major issues that effected the health of my two corns. Really you should start off with a vivarium that holds around 20 Gallons and as they reach the size of an adult (3 years) move them into a 50 Gallon, roughly.

Oh i dont know if you know this, but your tank should be around the 28 degrees C at the HOT end and around 21 - 23 degrees C at the COOL end.

You should provide two hides as a MINIMUM, one at the hot and one at the cool. Remeber to supply fresh water, which is changed daily.

With the subrates, i would recommend aspen, which you need to have at least an inch in depth spread across the vivarium, so the snakes can burrow if they want.

Now with feeding. Start with pinkies and feed every 4 or 5 days, then after 3-5 sheds and depending on the size of the cornsnakes build it up 2 pinkies or one fuzzie.

p.s. if you do house them together, make sure you get both of the corns checked for illness, etc and check the sex of the snakes, you dont want them to be both to be male and come mating season, (march/ april time) you will most probably find the two snakes attacking each other for teritory.

If you find you have a male and a female, and you do want to breed them i suggest learning 333 rule. Sadly, i am not going to tell you that. oh and another point, if you do breed them or want to, i suggest a hibernation period before, which will help make the male more fertile.

Hope this helps Andrew, and nice snakes by the way.

If anyone wants to add anything they are more than welcome to.
