Lucky you! Although I live in the UK, I went to that show when I was in Arizona a couple of years ago. It’s a good show - you’ll enjoy it. I love Arizona and can’t wait to go back. Is it still over 100 degrees in Phoenix at present? Seems weird as the leaves are going brown here.

Oh and, not trying to sound spiffy, stuck up or whatever,
If you come back to Az., Jess, if I still live here,
My friends place, at night, or late afternoon, Colorado River Toads are everywhere,
I know people say they never get a chance to see them in the wild or whatever,
Thats a diffrent story for me,
we see 20+ a night.
LOL

Wow! I didn’t know anything about them but have just looked them up and I see they are psychoactive! That’s really amazing. I’d love to see them. We always go out looking for animals when we’re there, and have seen some amazing things. I love the furry desert tarantulas and the amazing insects you have there, praying mantises and tarantula hawks and all those things. Butterflies bigger than the hummingbirds... I want to go back! We were in Utah, Wyoming and Colorado in August, which were also amazing. We only saw one snake which was some kind of garter snake in Sundance, Utah, but typically it was when we didn’t have a camera on us.

Yea if you ever get a chance to go the pan handle in Texas,
DO IT LOL
I have a post on here from herping pictures,
We don’t get the tarantulas at my friends house but we get plenty of Scorpions,
Like 5-7 inch ones lol
then the lil bark ones that can apperantly kill you.
Every now and then we find checkered garter snakes at this little mess up at a canal that formed to be an aurial we named pink tree,
I’ll put pictures up this weekend when I head out there,
Toad-poles everything, (Red spotted toads)
Lots of insects there, mainly Minnows and Dragonfly larvae in the water, some crawfish even!
Its pretty neat what we found out there,
even get kingsnakes, WDB rattlers, massaguas, and even Green’s!
Lizards are everywhere too, leading from Chuckawalla’s too Horned Lizards,
Whiptails to desert iguana’s we got it all ha,
best time of going would be early morning or late afternoon though,
but a very pretty place.

You’ve found a lot of great animals there. I think if we go to AZ next year I might ask you for some tips! We’ve seen some lizards although I’m not sure if we’ve seen a chuckwalla or not. Somehow all those lizards are difficult to identify from textbooks... We’ve seen one western diamondback.

Anyway, I’ve ruined your thread enough and must give some people a chance to say if they’re going to the Tucson show! Now off to bed as it’s 11:15PM here.

Thanks Nate,

Yeah we have that one and still having trouble! I don’t think we have seen a chuckwalla to be fair - we’ve definitely seen desert spiny lizards. I know it states the size in the book and it’s a great book - it’s sometimes difficult to picture them till you actually see them though! I hope we’ll be able to go next summer and try again!

But yea hopefully you’ll get some luck next time you come down here.

I’ll be going! I’ve been planning to go the last 2 years and something has ALWAYS come up. Not this time! I’m going and that’s it! I live in Mesa.

Jess, sadly, it is still over 100 degrees in the day, as Nate said. Probably won’t be until October sometime when the last 100 degree day will be behind us. LOL.

Sadly it’s over 100?? We’ve barely seen the great fireball since returning from the US. I admit it has been a particularly bad summer in the UK, lots of rain and only a handful of warm, sunny days - but really, it’s only September 8 and it’s 59 degrees, cloudy, 72% humidity. It’s horrible. Maybe it will improve...

Here’s the weather forecast for the next 10 days where I live. link Can you tell I’m fed up with it?? I don’t think you ever get drizzle in Arizona! Ah well, it’s a maritime climate - guess I have to live with it.

Okeetee Man - I’ve NEVER been to a Herp show, so I have no idea what to expect. I’ve SEEN pics of the big ones on either coast, but I know that they’re WAY bigger than what we’ll be going to.
