 Just doing my research

okay so I am thinking about getting my first snake.
I already own 1 leopard gecko, 1 bearded dragon, and 2 mice and I really want a snake.
I heard that corn snakes are the best beginner snakes so thats what im looking into. I have a few questions so if you have the answer that would be great.
1) How much are the frozen mice/pinkies?
2) when they bite, how much does it hurt and do they immediatly let go?
3) do they stink?
4) what is the best substrate in your opinion?
5) how often should their cage be cleaned?
6) Is it true that they dont need any supplement stuff?

 Just doing my research

1. The mice for my snake were kinda steep, but they are GREAT quality, so im willing to pay more for them. I got mine from themousefactory dot com.
2. IF they bite, which i seriously doubt they will, it doesn’t hurt AT ALL. usually its just a strike if they’re stressed out or something.
3. Nope.
4. I was using aspen, but i couldn’t maintain my desired humidity levels, so i switched to repti bark and i love it. my snake like it too i think.
5. about once a month thoroughly, daily spot cleaning.
6. Yes, its true. as long as they’re eating regularly, corns require no supplements.

Hope i helped. Jakerz

1) At a pet store they are anywhere from 30 cents - $1 each. Petco sells bags of 3 for $3something. I order mine in bulk from Rodentpro. So the pinkies were 12 cents each + shipping.
2) It’s pretty much just 2 tiny little scratches...sometimes not even that. No it doesn’t really feel like anything. Usually a Corn will warn you that it’s stressed out and could strick by rattling it’s tail and curving up like a mini cobra....but Corn Snake rarely bite.
3) They don’t stink if you have the right bedding and clean up after them.
4) I say the best 2 substracts are Aspen or Carefresh bedding.
5) You can spot clean the cage as needed or do a total clean out when needed.
6) Nope. Just feed a hatchling 1 pinky every 5 days and they will be good. :)

the price of mice/pinkies depends where you get them from.

Petco sells 3 adult frozen mice for 5.99

pinks are about 3 something i think for frozen ones

Corn snakes rarely bite if ever at all. If you get bit by a corn snake its only because you smell like food.
so clean your hands before you touch snakes and you’ll be fine.

Cornsnakes only stink when they use the bathroom thats it.

if you want to feed your snakes in the tank the best substrate for that is news paper. if you arent going to feed your snake in the tank you can use aspen because corn snakes love to hide under the aspen.

you only have to clean the age so they soil it, so just get that up RIGHT AWAY and everything else w ill be fine. if they do anything in the water clean that asap.

the only thing corn snakes need are heat mats, a water dish, and two hides.

In my opinion there is no down side to owning a corn snake.
