Does he possibly have a piece of substrate stuck in his mouth? One time my Red Tail Boa got her big rat almost all the way down and the tail was somehow stuck on a tooth and she was shaking and rubbing her mouth and finally got it unstuck and finished swallowing it just when we were ready to pull her out and help her.

Never seen one with hiccups, although I am no expert, do you think its trying to throw it up? How old, and how big is the snake, what size mouse did you feed, and has it fed well for you in the past?

I have seen my old corn throw up only once, he was sick and the vet force fed him, and it looked really freaky, he had his mouth open and seemed to be gasping for air and was writhing about till he coughed it up and looked so pissed, it scared me, I thought he might die, than latter he was fine. Im sorry I cant be of more help, I was hopeing someone else would chime in here with their thoughts! If he just ate I would think thats whats going on, and not a seizure.

My snake is doing it again, I just held him. It looks like muscle spasims in the upper half of his body.

"i don’t know that nearest reptile specialist"

Dude, always find this stuff out before you buy a pet! My bet is he was trying to regurgitate, but I’m no expert. Go find out where your nearest herp vet is NOW, and if he doesn’t stop, call them.

I don’t mean to sound like a jerk, I’m just tired of people buying pets they have no idea how to get medical help for. Hope he’s alright.

I was wondering if you read the rest of my posts? He is not trying to throw up he was fed a couple days ago. Also the nearest reptile expert is a two hours drive just to get there and my parents have full time jobs.

Thanks.

Well, maybe you should have had something lined up before you got him is what the other guy was saying. You have to be ready for these things, they happen. You have to get him to a vet, there’s no option. Even if he stops, he should see a vet.

Jake

First of all, the fact that he was fed a few days ago doesn’t mean he couldn’t regurgitate now. Digestion tends to take between two and three days and regurgitation can happen at any point.

Secondly, thanks Jake, that’s exactly what I was saying. Like all animals, snakes - even well-cared for ones - will have health problems. You should have made sure you could provide him with medical care before you got him.

Given your current situation, I would suggest finding an older friend who can drive you to the vet. One way or another, please, please get him there.

My one corn snake had those odd "Spasms" before. I noticed he did it occasionally when i touched him (not really to pick him up but to move him) and he would push back against me. He’d continue for about 5 min "twitching" about his tank. He would stop if i actually picked him up though. I took him to see my vet but nothing bad was found. She told me that Males, when fighting, will push and shove each other as well as display jerky movements. We believe that he was just displaying natural behavior since nothing was found to be wrong. I hope this helps, but by all means a vet should always have a look if something worries you.
