New corn. Need help with morph....

We got a new snake today because her owners are moving across the country. I know she’s a stripe, but not sure if she’s a striped normal, or striped bloodred. Her belly is completely white...no checkers at all. I know the picture isn’t very good. It’s night time, she’s squirmy, and it’s a camera phone. I’m surprised it turned out this well. lol

We’ve got her in a 41 quart tub right now, so I have it completely covered with plants and hides. I’ll probably move her into my 20 gallon long tomorrow. Here’s her setup for now.

Let me know what you think. Thanks!

Brook

Beautiful! It looks like a bloodred because the head looks pretty grey. That combined with the white belly makes me think blood.

Great looking setup, I’m sure s/he’ll love it! :)

Thank you! Her head is pretty light and I did find it strange that she didn’t have any belly pattern since I thought she was a normal when I looked at pictures of her, so my thoughts immediately went to bloodred. She’s a very pretty girl. It’s going to be great when she gets big enough to breed. I just need to find her a few good boyfriends also.

Normal motley (with q-tipping, most likely het stripe). Not a bloodred, what people forget that bloodred is a pattern mutation, theres no diffusion on that snake.

And just to clarify, motley causes patternless belly.

So you ask for our help, we give it too you... and you insult us. However it is a wise choice to go to the pros.

I’m not insulting anybody. I just stated a fact. 3 different opinions is not help. It’s confusing. Sorry if you took offense, but I was not insulting anybody.

I didn’t find Repfanatic’s decision to consult a professional breeder to be insulting...

Although it’s difficult to say for sure from the pictures, I’m still leaning more toward bloodred. Yes, motleys have white bellies, but that snake looks like a stripe to me. And I don’t see any black in the pattern and the head is distinctly grey. Hatchling and juvenile bloodreds don’t have the colors that adults do, so really it looks like a juvi blood to me.

Here’s a picture of my bloodred from when he was small.

Thank you, ETM. I sent the pictures to Kathy Love today, so hopefully I’ll hear from her soon. The head is what’s throwing me off. Her body doesn’t look like a lot of the bloodreds I’ve seen pictures of, but her head looks to be turning grey like a blood.

I posted on another forum and somebody said that striped bloodreds are not very common. A lot of poeple said she could be a motley stripe, or a motley het stripe, but I’d have to breed her to find out. I’m looking for a striped male for her right now. I’ll see what Kathy has to say, but I think it’ll end up where I have to wait a few years through breeding to find out if she’s a motley stripe, or just a motley with q tipping. I’m still kinda thinking bloodred, but I guess we’ll have to wait and see on that also. I’ll let you know what Kathy comes up with. Thanks again.

Yep! The color changes too. Here’s my guy now. (3 years later)

I am interested to hear what Kathy has to say. (That’s where I got my snakes, too) Whatever she is, she’s a good looking snake! :)

Oooh...hes adorable! he looks totally different. the same thing is happening with my Hypomel(?) male...he was a yellow orage when i got him a few months ago, and now he is bright orange, and the yellow is almost completly faded. i bet when your girl grows up she will have amazing colors. your both lucky to have gotten them!

Well, I got an e-mail from Kathy saying she’s out of town for a week and she won’t be able to look at the pictures until she gets back, so we’ll just have to wait and see.

Sorry guys, insult was the wrong word, what I was trying to get across was that the "this doesn’t help" thing really isn’t a great thing to say when you ask about something on an internet forum... and lots of different people usually means different views. And I said it was a wise choice to go to Kathy, not a bad one.

But come on guys once again its a pattern trait. Stripe/ motley ontop of bloodred (diffusion) causes intense coloration and diffusion... you can see the side pattern in that snake way to well for it to be a bloodred (diffuse) and especially for a stripe/motley diffuse.

Look at these stripe/ motley diffuses.

Regardless of whether you think it was a good thing to say or not I said it because it was a fact and that’s who I am....blunt and to the point. If you don’t like it then don’t read anymore of my posts. As stated before I did not mean for it to offend anyone and I already apologized, so it can be dropped now.

As for your pictures...I will wait to get word back from Kathy. I did talk to another breeder that says she looks to be a normal phase motley/stripe, but the head was throwing him off also. He said she may color up as she gets older which is why I’m still leaning towards blood red. Either way she’s going to be fun to breed. So far I’m looking at a striped ghost, pinstripe ghost, or aztec striped ghost to breed her to. I love ghosts and I love stripes as you can see. lol

She is fantastically beautiful, Repfanatic. Your picture is just a little fuzzy, so hard to make out, but if I had to make a guess (and it is only my own opinion, definitely not professional ;) ), I would say that she is a motley striped normal. I looked through some pics of the bloodred hatchlings, and though they have the grayish head like yours, the patterning just looks so pronounced. But, of course, I could be severely wrong. It would be totally awesome if she was a motley striped bloodred, or even just a striped bloodred, though....so I’ll be checking back to see what Kathy has to say about her. :) Thanks for sharing the pics!

Hi,
I just got home and am not sure if I answered you yet. But she looks like a normal colored motley striped corn.

Hope that helps.

Thank you, Becca! I’ll be getting a pair of aztec striped ghosts and a mystery corn from a breeder friend next month. Can’t wait to breed her!
