 The Rule is . . .

Three years and 300 grams--lessee, from my metric equivalency days that’s about 3/4 of a pound . . .

The general practice is to "brumate" or cool the snake in a darkened place after allowing a fasting period of perhaps several weeks to allow all of the food in the alimentary canal to clear and be excreted. I simply use plastic shoe boxes with a bit of appropriate substrate and a water dish. It’s best to leave the snakes undisturbed as much as possible although the water should be changed regularly.

This mimics the natural "hibernation" process that occurs in winter, and although it may not be necessary for many corns, the general feeling is it increase egg production.

The females tail looks...a little weird. Is it the camara angle, or does her tail look like that? They are both pretty, though^^

no her tail looks like that. I bought her from someone in T.O and it was like that when we got her about 3 mths ago. Is there something wrong with her? should i get her checked? the ppl i bought her from said it was always like that and that is how a females tail should look. i have only ever had males so i just assumed they knew what they were talking about lol

Sometimes when snakes have fat "hips," it means they’re being overfed.
How much do you feed her & how often?

Yeah, that snake definitely looks overweight or possibly impacted... Is she going to the bathroom regularly? There is a slight difference between the tapering of the male and the female’s tails, but nothing that pronounced. It’s not even a reliable enough of a difference to sex them.

My guess is that her previous owner just overfed her; possibly powerfeeding to make her get bigger faster. It’s unhealthy for the snake. I can’t tell how long she is, but she looks like she’s big enough to be eating every 7-10 days, possibly every 14 to help her lose a little of that weight.

It can also be a sign she has been powerfed in general. If that is the case, she’ll likely never "grow into her tail" properly. But, what is certain is that if she is not impacted, she is definitely been powerfed or is just flat overweight. Might help to get the opinion of a vet though. Reptiles should go to the vet once a year anyhow.

Also, when choosing a vet MAKE SURE they are a reptile vet. A "regular dog/cat" vet probably won’t be able to properly care for your snake. I took my Atlas to a regular vet, she told me he was perfectly fine, but he wasnt! I took him to a rep. vet, and he had a parasitic infection in his gut. : / Hes growing like a weed now. lol Also make sure that the vet you choose knows how to handle your snake. Make sure they dont drop your pet or handle them poorly. Pretty much the same guidlines as a dog vet, but for snakes. ^^
