 I didn’t screw up!

I’m so happy, 3 of the eggs started hatching overnight and the fourth I’m guessing should hatch soon, it’s bulging on one side and looking ready to pop. I expected them to hatch last month and started thinking I did something wrong, but here they are! No clue what I’m going to do with them as it was an accident in the first place, but I’m happy I didn’t screw up! Will post pics when they get out of their eggs, they’re a little jumpy at the moment and keep going back into their eggs when they see me.

Oh yeah, I know that well. Mine took most of a day to decide to come out and see the world. Ha!
Then its the week wait for the shed...then...trying to get them to eat.

Theres lots of good advice that was given to me on how to do that, so check out the posts about the noodles, especially the one about the 4th baby not eating still. That washing a live pinky with unscented soap did the trick! Ill be trying in 5 days with a washed Frozen Thawed. ( The live one I soaped up my hands and rubbed the baby down, then rinsed my hands alot with very warm water, cradling it so it wouldn’t drown to get the soap off then dried with a paper towel so it wouldnt get too cold too fast)

Good luck over the next few weeks!

Question about the unhatched egg. The other three are out and about enjoying their tank, but the fourth hasn’t hatched yet. A part of the egg is translucent, I can see the pattern of the snake’s colors through it and saw him wiggle yesterday, but he hasn’t hatched yet or even cut the egg open. Any idea what could be up? Could the egg go bad all of a sudden or is he just taking his sweet time coming out?

Love the babies!!!

Just give it some time. The eggs don’t always hatch at the same time. Just leave the egg alone for now so that is doesn’t stress out and it should hatch just fine, probably withing a couple of days or so. My dragons do this to me, sometimes some will hatch a full week or so after the others.

Keep us posted!!

The aspen bedding is too dry for the eggs. What did you have them on before? The pic looked like moist dirt.

They’re in moist dirt now, something the snake guy I get my feeders from told me to put the eggs in. I’m going to leave the egg there until it hatches, was just wondering when I can move the babies to an aspen tank. or should I just keep them in dirt for awhile? thanks!

 I didn’t screw up!

What worked for me was to put them in tubs with good ventilation. At first I had them on Paper towells so that I could be sure there were no issues. I had one born with a birth defect, sadly. (Pics are on the post for them on this forum) I had coco-fibre substrate for my boas, and thats what the corns are on for now until they have their second shed.

I feed them on jar lids so that they dont swallow any substrate which could cause impaction.

I had issues with one feeding, but thanks to several peoples suggestions, I was able to finally get the last one to feed.

Good Luck!

They can go on to the aspen after several days. After they shed is a pretty good rule. They have their first shed pretty quickly. I would feed them in deli cups first, until they are eating well, then move them into a box without substrait for feeding, so that they don’t swallow the substrait.

Let me know if you have anymore questions

Another question. The unhatched egg is getting almost all transparent and wet. I can still see the pattern of the snake inside. Could the egg have gone bad or could it be soggy and wet because the egg above it hatched and leaked all over it? Any ideas?

Reptile eggs tend to sweat prior to hatching but that egg sounds a little too wet to me. If you do touch the egg does the baby move?

Sometimes they do go bad right before hatching. The way that egg sounds, it is like what happend to one of my beardie eggs.

I was thinking it went bad. I just poked the egg and nothing happened, so I’m guessing the little guy didn’t make it. Poor thing. But, I guess for a first time clutch and an uneducated, accidental breeder, 3 out of 4 ain’t bad. Once I’m sure the little guys are eating I’ll be looking for homes for them in case anyone is interested.

Yea, that sometimes happens. It is sad though, since they are fully developed and all.

Thank you! At least I have 3 healthy ones. I don’t think they like me much, though, as I keep looking in on them. They’re just too cute not to check up on!

They do tend to be a bit nippy and flighty at first, but they calm down very quickly if handled. I really do miss working at the breeders. I had a lot of fun handling the babies on a daily basis! At least I have my own to handle, even though they aren’t so small anymore
