Lamps are fine- better than no heat at all, but they do have a tendency to dry out the cage, and in a 10 gallon its harder to get a temperature gradient with one, which is why a UTH is better. Also with a lamp, unless you are using an infra red, you have to turn them off at night, then where are they getting heat from?

I have my boas on a combination of UTH and lamp on the warm side and it makes a good temp gradient. I have them on Coconut hull bedding, and that helps since I change it monthly, just as it starts to dry out too much and sap the humidity. The lamp is also half over the water, so the evaporation helps humidity.

Corns by no means need as much humidity as boa constrictors, but they do need some. Make sure you have a good thermometer on either end ( not those stick on kinds! they are not worth the two bucks they cost except as perhaps a backup for a real thermometer!) and a Hydrometer. This way you can check and be sure your husbandry is correct. Also, a Thermostat or Rheostat really really helps so the heat gets turned off or on automatically while you are out and keeps the temps right where you want them.

As soon as you get the money, those would be wise investments.
