Wanted a corn snake for 2 years. have a job now to convince mom?

i’ve always loved snakes. ever since i would talk i’ve looked at snake books and been fascinated by them. my mom doesnt like animals though sadly. i get 60 dollars a month which i’m sure is enough to care for a corn snake (if not tell me otherwise). i know everything i can know without experience i even know what stores in my town carry the supplies i need and the breeders and all the prices. all i need is for my mom to okay it. what did you guys do to get your parent(s) to let you get a snake? feel free to include any photos :) thankyou.

I wouldn’t recommend doing it behind her back. That’s how you ruin trust. Tell your mother that the snake can live in your room and she’ll never have to see it, hear it, touch it or feed it. Make an outline with facts about why a corn snake would make a good pet for you. For example: snakes are quiet, don’t make hairy messes on furniture, don’t smell (usually?), only eat 1-2 times a week, poo is easily cleaned up, etc. Also find as many care sheets and general info as you can and print it out to show her. You could possibly even print out forum posts with people talking about how much they love having their snakes. Promise her that she’ll never have to take care of it for you (this better be true though.)

Also I remember going to my first reptile expo with my mom. She held a few snakes and watched me interact with them. I think that helped. So maybe you could ask your mom to go to an expo or a nice pet store with you and just LOOK, no buying. It took me a long time to get my snake but now my mom thinks she’s cute.

I hope it works out for you and I hope I helped. =]

i just brought mine home. if you want one, i have two i am selling for 75 dollars each, that includes a cage, heat lamp, heat pad, bowl for water, and 10 starter mice. if you want more it is 10 dollars for 10, anywhere else you"ll be paying 2 dollars a mouse.

if you can get a snake try building up the tank first showing your mom that you are really up for this raising a snake can be hard at times but they are very good pets if you get a baby corn they can run you any where from 10 dollars to 100 dollars or even more the smart thing to do is to buy lights and the tank then substrate hides buy it all separatly this is one way you can still have money for your self then when you get everything set up look for a snake either from a breeder in your area local pet shop or like what i do from a buy and sell website like kijjij or craigs list feeding them can be cheap at times i get frozen pinky mice for 90 cents and once they get older you just keep them on frozen mice these are way cheaper then feeding live mice or if you know people around you that have snakes you can even breed your own mice im thinking im getting into this soon lol corns love some room to move i have mine in a 40 gallon tank but a 20 gallon long tank will do if you have any questions just ask on here

I’m normally on the BP forum since I don’t own corns but I think this question would be a general thing for all future snakes owners. Luckily when I was 5 my dad got ball pythons for me and my brother and raised them for us teaching us how to care for them and such. What you can do is highlight the benefits of having a snake in your home. They are hypoallergenic, they only eat every few days, they don’t require attention like a cat or dog does, no smell if you keep the cage clean, docile most of the times, feeding them is way cheaper than ever feeding a dog or a cat, if you have to go on a vacation for a week you don’t have to hire a sitter, lice and fleas will be a thing of the past when you own a snake versus cats or dogs, snakes don’t make noise that anyone can here in another room(hissing at times depending on what you get), and the list goes on and on.
