 I really need some help

I have 2 corns, one of which will be a year old November 26. He weighs about 13 oz, and it seems he has completely STOPPED growing. He is about 14 inches or so long, and his girth is a bit bigger than a pinkies. I took him to the vet, and he has no parasites or anything. He does get constipated, and I have to help him with it. My other snake is roughly 8 months or so, and already almost 2 feet, and he has gained a lot of weight. He went to the vet too, and is very healthy.

I was wondering, is there something I can do to help my little snake grow? He is barely bigger than a 2 month old. Please, I really need help with this.

How often is he being fed? What does the tank have? Temps? Substrait?

As for the constipation, do you give him warm water soaks?

Helen

I have tried the warm soaks, but it stresses him out, and he will throw up anything in his stomach, be it water or just acid. The temp on the warm side is 80 degrees, and the cool sidendoesnt get less than 68. he is in a 20 gall long with a UTH that is on at night to keep it at least room temp(it gets cold here at night, its fall) a water dish that is changed daily, multiple hides in evey temperature zone, and i use aspen bedding. he gets 2 pinkies a week, because 1 isnt enough and a fuzzy is too big. he had 3 regurges as a baby, but none since. he is almost 1 year.

Poor little guy, sounds like he had a rough start in life.

Ok, the first thing I would do would be to get the warm side of the tank up to 90F. 88-90 is best for young and sickly snakes, and he’s not been doing so well so he’ll be needing things nice and warm, especially if the cool side gets near 68. Higher temps also aid in digestion. The low temps could be what’s giving him trouble.

For constipation there is something that you can put in their water that will help them, I can’t remember what it is... Mineral oil, perhaps? If soaking him is stressing him out, raise the overall humidity of his tank. I’d go to around 50-60%. This is easily done by adding an extra water dish and putting it on the warm side of the tank. If necessary, you can cover part of the screen to trap more moisture in.

You could also try feeding him one large pinky every 5 days rather than 2 every week. It would be easier for him to digest. Are you sure he couldn’t take a small fuzzy? Or perhaps a rat pinky? If your pet store breeds their own mice it makes it way easier to get the perfect size. If not, then I’d still suggest going with 1 pinky every 5 days, or at least only one pinky every other feeding, just because he’s having digestion problems.

Alright, thanks. I raised the temp, and i did add an extra water dish. Last night, I saw him trying to get out and moving around more than i have ever seen him do sincehe was little bitty. I have a breeding stock of mice i started a few days ago, because the f/t mice i get are usually broken, have freezer burn, and apparently, there was a warning that some might have parasites a few weeks ago. is it better to feed f/t or live? when both of them eat live, it seems like they are more active, and their feeding is more....enthusiastic?

There’s no difference when your snake is eating pinkies and fuzzies, but once they get to where they’re eating something that can fight back and hurt them, f/t is better. My snakes would take live and f/t interchangeably, but some of them won’t eat f/t after they’ve been on live for a while. So in the long run, if your snakes eat frozen just fine, it’s probably best to just keep them on it. That way you won’t have to change anything later on.

That sucks about the frozen mice you’d been getting, but breeding your own mice is the best way to go, in my opinion. I did that for a while and it was great. I’ll do it again once I’m back in housing that will allow it.

I agree with the 1 pink a week. Once the pinks that you have get to the right size they can go in the freezer, so you will have your own stock.

everything else sounds great, just keep the little guy warm..
