Baby corn and what size tank?

Hello and thanks for reading. Im sure im gonna get blasted for this question.LOL..but anyways..I currently have two snakes, one being a corn, the other a desert king snake.. They both are roughly the same age, I purchased from petsmart back in April and they were young then..I know, Petsmart is not the greatest, but where im at in upstate ny, there are no breeders of corn snakes avail, and too far to travel to any rep shows...anyways, from day one, each snake went in his own 20 gallon long tank...they are doing great now...But Im interested in getting a really really small baby corn from petsmart to add to my collection.. this corn is much smaller then the other two that I purchased 6 months ago..maybe around 8 inches long, and as skinny as a pencil. I have been wanted to add to my collection for sometime(not interested in breeding), my question is, what is the ideal size tank for one this small? I know eventually the 20 gallon long will do like my others, but I think this size tank would be wayyy to big for him for atleast 8 months or so, Petsmart has a nice 5.5 gallon reptile tank with the locking top, would this size tank be too small for a baby corn for the next 6 months or so? I would get a smaller size UTH to use...or am I better off with a 10 gallon? I dont want to pay too much at this point for another tank, as in the end, he will end up in a 20 gallon anyways, but like i said, i want to hold off for now on the 20 as i believe he is too small right now..actually, I believe the tanks they keep them in are 5.5 gallon tanks...thanks for the time and help...

I’d go with the 10 gallon. It will last you about a year, and it isn’t too big to make it difficult to fill it with hides.

The cheapest way is to get a plastic storage tub with a locking lid ($2-4 depending on size) at walmart. At this point you have 2 heating options if you are going to use a pad.
1. buy a pad that you can use with a 20 gal and just set the tub on top of it (don’t peel off the sticky) so you can stick the pad to a bigger tank eventually. You might need to set the tub up off of the pad (with the little rubber footies that come with the pad.)
2. What I did and definitely think is better: do the plastic tub thing and then set the entire tub (ours is about 7. in. by 11 in. and about 3 in. deep) WITH A LID ON inside of the other corn’s tank. then they can share their heating pad until the little one outgrows the tub (in about a year-ish) and can move into its own 20 gal.

Just make sure the little snake only has about 1/3 of the tub on the heat and has water and a hide on the cool side. Also make sure the big guy still can get to the heat (mine curls up under the tub-that’s where he is in these pics)
