Yes, you can take her outside. Corns are primarily nocturnal but I do find them and catch them in the open during the day. Just don’t take her out for more than a half hour or so at the time.

Corn snakes are diurnal, it’s fine to keep them in the light, thought they do prefer the dark.

I live in South Carolina and you do have to be careful when taking them outside in that you don’t let them get either too hot or too cold. Actually too hot is worst than too cold and I have to be super careful when I take one outside at my house because I have nine dogs and any of them would love to do away with the snake. Anyway, most of my classes are inside a building.

I dont think they will get cold if they are inside the house, and you are touching them. You are sort of like a human heating pad.

And are you trying to tell me that its weird to hold snakes for an hour? I held mine for 3 hours once.

Nope, I take some of mine to classes and since lots of different people may hold the same snake I limit the time to one hour and then I put that snake up and get out another one if the class goes on that long. I have a granddaughter that is your age and she holds my ball python for hours on end and there is no big deal about that. In fact, I enjoy seeing her sitting, watching TV, while holding the snake. I am working on getting her mom, who is my daughter, to let her have her own snake. Her dad is okay with the idea so maybe we’ll work something out.

Yes, they do or at least I think they do simply because they don’t have the body mass that adult snakes have. You’ll learn all about temperature/mass exchange rates when you take thermodynamics in college. *LOL* If you are lucky, I will be teaching the class.

Here are a few of what I have.

These are Maize, Patch and Checkers. They live together and I just lifted up the hide for this picture.

This is Montie and Honey. Montie is the biggest snake I have at 54 inches and 8 pounds.

This is Buzz Tail my Canebrake rattlesnake. He is 30 inches long. I nearly stepped on him in my yard one night last August so I caught him and keep him.

This is George a black rat snake I caught in my barn when he was about 14 inches long. I’ve had him two years and he is about 3 and a half feet long now.

This is Rosen a pine snake.

I have some more but will need to take more pics soon.

Nope, the rattlesnake isn’t annoying at all. In fact, he is very shy like most snakes and stays in his hide expect in the early evening right after sundown when he comes out for a little bit. He rarely rattles and then only when he feels threatened like Loss er said. I caught him in early August and I doubt he has rattled over five times and all of these was when I was doing something to his cage. He does not rattle even when striking his prey. He just zaps it and sits back and waits on it to die. I feed him live one or two large mice a week now and will be switching to small adult mice in the near future. He has nearly doubled his size since I found him. He was like 16 inches long then and is over 30 now. *LOL* I’m sure exactly how long he is because I don’t think it wise to hold him to measure him.

There is a snake measuring program at Serp Widgets. It is under the Apps section. You take a picture of the snake with an object of known length, then use the program to measure the snake. It has full instructions on the site. I use this one to measure my snakes, and it works a lot better than trying to hold a squirming snake next to a ruler.
