 Why corn snakes

I was just thinking why do people own corn snakes. The only thing they have going for them is the color morphs. Please tell me whats so great about corn snakes. Tell me your opions about why corn snakes are so great.

Well after I owned geckos I knew that I wanted a snake next, but I wanted one that was active, docile, and friendly since I have a little brother who loves reptiles and I didn’t want to have to worry about it becoming agressive. So I mainly just absalutely love their personality. And because of the morphs they’re also fun to look at which is a plus :)

I agree. Most corns have great personalities, and are easy to handle. They usually aren’t biters (although there are exceptions) and are friendly. Also, they’re a relatively easy pet, since they don’t need a big tank, will usually be able to eat mice their entire life, and really don’t even need a ton of attention. There aren’t really any downsides that I can think of for corn snakes. And the fact that they can be very pretty is a plus!

I’ll second what Africabound said, but I can think of a drawback: they are escape artists!
Really though, they are excellent pets and very low-maintenance.

-they are excellent pets
-they come in all kinds of great colors as well as patterns ie aztech, stripe etc
-they are very docile
-dont require a lot of space 20-30 gallon tanks
-they are relatively cheap
-dont get as big as say a boa or some pythons
-can be handled by children
-low maintenance as kels88 said

and really there are no drawback as long as you DO have a secure lid that you know the snake cannot get out of :)

They’re friendly (most), active, personable, and of course, have lots of pretty morphs to choose from. Easy to care for as far as reptiles go, and they’re on the small side so you save on space and food money. How can you not like corn snakes? ;)

Pullease. Clearly you havent spent time with...or just arent attracted to them.
Me. I was a die hard boa constrictor fan. Still am really. But then I babysat some classroom corns last summer. Did research, got to know them. They laid some eggs one week after I got them here. AHHH! Had seen the parents raise baby boas and helped care for them- but I was just a kiddo. (Its really a miracle they survived. So little was known about them and so few were breeding in the 70s cause people didnt know how to care for them!) Asked questions. Did research. Really was glad I asked for the incubator having just heard corns could double clutch, and the female and male were housed together.

Then "The noodles" were born. Watched each of them hatch. Had to Euthanize one due to a birth defect. Each one has a very distinct personality, and has since hatching. The last one born (that survived- the one with the birth defect was the last hatched) is FEISTY. Very defensive and agressive despite being held the most (to try to get it used to people) It is also nearly twice the size of the others as it has never missed a meal. Miiha is the escape artist, and also LOVES to come right over to you when you open its tub. has the wildest pattern...which is where I got her name. Pretty much says it right on her. (maybe its Miina?) Mr Noodle is a little shy at first sometimes and very gregarious at others, but he is very mellow. Just hangs out.
Then theres the one I havent named. Its been held the least, so its a bit defensive at times, but if I go slow and gently it does not strike. If I move fast it gets a little skittish. Just needs more of my time.

so yeah...each one is different. They have ALOT going for them as was mentioned above. They are forgiving and beautiful snakes. They grow to be the width of a garden hose, and are easily handled. Again, gotta have a secure enclosure for them- but that is because by and large they are very curious snakes that in the wild live on field mice and lizards which are fast and hard to catch. The coolest thing with them is to have a long enclosure and build various hides and rock formations in their tank, then watch them explore!

Obviously this guy hasnt read a single care sheet or article on corns. People own them for many reasons. If colors were all they had going, do you think so many people would love and own them? Yeah, didn’t think so. They’re docile, easy to care for, fun to care for, and cheap to sum it up.
