 Update: my corns

Hey guys!!!!! I don’t post here very much, so I just wanted to show an update of my two corns. They’re doing great, very healthy, and have never caused me any trouble with their eating habits. Now, some pics!

First, Ceres, named after the Roman goddess of the corn, or harvest. She was my first snake, which makes her extra special. I’ve had her for just over a year. She’s almost two years old, and about three feet long. I love watching her grow! She’s a butter morph.

Ceres in her 40 gallon tank.

Now for my other corn, Scout. She’s older, probably about four years old. I got her in December. She’s a normal.

And Scout’s tank. It’s also 40 gallon.

So those are my pets! Hope you guys like the pics!

Thanks!!!!! Your snake is really pretty too! And corns don’t actually NEED to live in a 40 gallon tank. Yours should be okay in a 25 even as an adult. I just spoil mine by giving them extra space. :)

Growth rate is all based on how much and how often you feed.

I love butters! Do you have a pic of her in natural/sun light?
I can’t wait til my little guy gets his yellows in!

Wow, she doesn’t try to run off or anything??? Thats so cool. I was wondering if it’s ok to handle my snake and how I should go about doing it. Because you seem to know how to handle them if they don’t try to get away from you when they are outside. I waited 1-2 weeks after getting her but I want to hold her,if I can’t thats ok too.

 Update: my corns

Well, I’m always close to her in case she does start moving too far away, and I’m always very careful. For example, I never take both of my snakes outside at the same time, since that would be too much to watch. When outside, each snake needs my full attention. You’re right to leave your snake alone for a while after getting it, but after a week it should be adjusted enough to its new home, and you can start to handle it. I’m not exactly sure how to tell you HOW to handle it; just pick the snake up and let it slither through your fingers. Don’t clutch the snake, let it move around. Really, you don’t even need to hold on that much: the snake will hold on to you! One thing to remember is the time you’re most likely to get bitten is when you first reach in the cage, since the snake may think your hand is a mouse. So when you pick her up, first let her know you’re there, don’t surprise her. And, of course, don’t handle for a day or two after she eats. That’s really all I can think of to tell you. Hope this helped!

Yup. The indoor pictures just don’t do her justice. She’s got such rich color out in the natural light though!
I hope to take our 2 bigger snakes out for pictures this summer. I wouldn’t trust Butters out there with how small and fast he is though. He’d be gone in 2 seconds! Maybe I’ll just open all the blinds & set him on a houseplant for a pic... :)

Every day is fine. For 5 or 10 minutes while they’re small.
Just don’t hold her for 48 hours or so after she eats (leave her alone to digest if she still has a lump in her belly)
