Now to get to the point of AS you know I am knew to this forum and to owning corn snakes, I have a few questions, do to the fact that no matter where I look for information, every book and site has conflicting information. 1) what substrate is best for Rhianna? I have heard and read everything from soil to cedar chips, witch even I know is a absolute no,no ! I am currently using aspen reptile bedding. 2) what type of heating is best to use ? at this time I am using an under the tank heating pad. 3) what temperature should the warm and cool sides be ? At this time I have the warm side at 80 F and the cool side at 72 F. 4) Do corns enjoy having things to climb on or not ? 5) and finally what would be the proper humidity level for my Rhianna ? I am currently keeping it at 40% thank you for any information you are able to provide me with. I really appreciate all the help |

I saw i pic of your "Rhianna" on another thread and she is not just "albino", shes amelinistic, witch means that she is missing the melinistic color pigment. if she was albino or what we call snow, she would look like this:
And yours is this:
1) Substrate. Best substrate would ether be "Snake Bedding" found at PETCO or Petsmart, because even if they eat it, it is ok because they have very strong digestive system, i mean think of the bones they digest weekly from mice. Another good one is reptile carpet. 2) Heating. Well i use a 75 watt heat lamp, but corn snakes do not require light. A heat pad will work fine, just pick one NOT both. Corn snakes require minimal heat, but do need something to avoid shedding problems. 3) Temps. Your temps sound good, just make sure you have a hide on the cool side as a place to cool down. 4) Climbing. Corn snakes are ground snakes, (thats why we give them 20gal LONGS), but some corns like to climb others don’t. My girl embeds herself on the rim of her cage, in between the lid of her cage and the rim of the top of her cage. So you can provide some sticks and branches. 5) Humidity. You do not need to monitor the humidity if you have a "moist hide", witch is a tupperware with a hole in it, as i door and fill it with coconut shavings found at PETCO in a block. Mist it daily and replace the coconut shavings every 2 weeks or so to prevent bacterial growth. |
