Have you tried using a (UTH) under tank heater. I use no lights with my corns. I keep the warm side between 85-88F and the coolside is at 75F

Temp? i need answers You can get hotter temps from a high wattage bulb but an under tank heater is much better. I use normal human heating pads that have a low/med/high setting and adjust it to keep the temp just above it between 85 and 90. They cost about $15 at WalMart but make sure that you get one that does not have an auto off feature. Those shut off in about 2 hours and you need one that will stay on 24/7. The under tank heaters also provide good "belly" warnth which will help the snake digest its food. Under tank heaters made especially for reptile cages cost about 35 bucks at the pet store where I do business, Oh, you only put the heater under one end of the cage so that it covers between 1/3 to 1/2 of the tank.

Temp? i need answers 79F is not warm enough. The warm side of your tank should be between 85-90 degrees!!!

Temp? i need answers Corns need belly heat to aide in the digestion of their food. I prefer uth although I use overhead lighting as well. I have a 50 watt day bulb that is safe for corns. I also use a 50 watt night bulb that is safe for corns. My temps usually range between 77-80 on the warm side. Markey NEVER EVER goes on the warm side unless she is ready to shed. I should say that I have seen her over there once or twice sunning on top of her log, but 99.5% of the time, she hangs out on the cool side. I think temps and humidity needs vary from state to state because of the difference in climate among other things. I think your temps are fine. Is your snake healthy? Does he/she eat well, digest well?? You will get fifty different opinions from fifty different people. My breeder told me that Markey doesn’t need a bulb......but the paranoid Mommy that I am is afraid that the uth will die and I won’t notice it in time......so I keep with the bulbs....low wattage and made for corns. You are fine Gabriel. :)

Temp? i need answers but a 20 watt blub would be real low in heat i use a 50w and in the day the temp is like 79 degrees night is like 72 so if i went with a lower watage the cages temp ould drop and it would be to low ? am i not correct?

Temp? i need answers Gabriel, yes, you are correct, a lower wattage bulb will put out less heat. Lozzer, under tank heaters can malfunction both ways. They can turn off and not heat or they can heat up very hot.Markey, if the under tank heater dies and doesn’t put out any heat, unless you have just fed, you don’t have to worry because the snake can handle the cooler temps. It may not be able to handle really high temps if the heater heats up unexpectedly. Also, most corns will do perfectly fine at 80 degrees, they do digest better if the temperature is up around 85. Have any of you tried the flex heat strips? I haven’t but would like to find out about them from someone who uses them rather than just trust the manufacturer.
