 Question

I was just wondering if snakes "come into season" like say dogs or cats. If they do what are the signs of this.

Also my snakes seem to have like a mad 5 minutes where they charge around the vivarium, are they just absolutely mad or is this a sign that there’s something wrong?

 Question

My snakes have just started racing around the vivarium again, I sat and watched them this time, and the male is racing around with the female literally on his back, can any enlighten me as what the hell they are doing?

 Question

Venemous_Poison, spring is the mating season for corn snakes. If you house your male and female together they WILL mate. Yes they "come into season", the female will start ovulating, and both will go off food as their appetite for mating is far more important than food. When they are charging around, the male is looking to mate with the female. If you don’t want babies then seperate immediately, and if the female is under 3 years old she is too young, and at risk of becoming eggbound if she becomes pregnant.

 Question

She’s definately older than 3 years, it was just kinda scary seeing two corn snakes racing around for the 3rd time lol thanks for clearing this up and rest a little easier now knowing what’s going on, these are my first set of snakes, I have a friend who has one on it’s own so any problems singularly I tend to go to him (which is like getting hold of a bar of soap in the shower if you catch my drift) but with a pair i’m inexperienced. I will keep you all posted on here. You mentioned that they will go off food, well they only ate 4 hours ago with no problems?

 Question

Hmm, they probably aren’t in it as much as a pair that are actually prepared for breeding. When you brumate them they will go off food during this time, but I’m guessing you didn’t do this. Carry on feeding as normal if there are no problems with it. Also I forgot to add the chance of your female getting pregnant is significanty lower, as the male’s sperm cells haven’t had a chance to build up over the brumation period. Keep us posted, if your female shows signs of becoming pregnant then hey, you’re going to be a Grandad/Grandmother!

 Question

Ok what are the signs of her being pregnant, the person I got the snakes from had a batch of eggs from them but they weren’t fertile, I’m not particularly worried if they are or aren’t, if they want to then fine if they don’t then fine, I won’t love them any less lol they’ll always be my babies

 Question

It will be quite obvious, the female will become fatter, just the same way as a human pregnant woman. Also if you let her run over your hands, you should feel the bumps of the eggs inside. Hope this all helps.
