On the cool side, but it will have trouble digesting if that’s it’s hotside temp. I would say at least in the lower 80s, 83 is about perfect.

im thinking of getting one so if i do get one i can just use a 75 watt infrared red bulb on the hot side and then turn it off at night will that be good?

Why turn it off at night? I’d just get a ceramic bulb and leave it on. The nice thing about the ceramic bulbs is that you can’t see them either. I have one of those red infrared bulbs before, and I could see it, and my snake wasn’t as active during night either so I bet it bothered it a little bit.

Also, you can get a indoor/outdoor thermometer with a high/low temp feature so you can get the enclosure set up, and make sure that it’s getting the correct temperature ranges, without having to keep an eye on the temp all day.

Yeah, they make them (the ones I’ve seen) in 60, 100, and 150 watts. They screw into your clamp lamp like a normal lightbulb, but they just heat up, they don’t emit light.

LOL. I’ve had my snake all of a half week. I just did a lot of research first. It’s just that I think those red bulbs are retarded because even if the reptile can’t see them, you can, and if it’s in your room, it’s a pain to sleep with it on. The ceremic bulbs are way more expensive, but I think it’s worth it for your comfort.

You do not even need a light at all!!! Get yourself a UTH (Under Tank Heater) that is all you will need.....Belly heat is more important than heat from above. I use no Lighting on any of my snakes!

Yer i agree!and if you have got a wooden viv you must put the heat mat inside and use a thermostat to control it so it wont burn the snake.

I have a UTH (a heat mat that was premade, not the fancy heat tape) and it doesn’t seem to affect the air temp in the enclosure at all, only the light seems to be able to raise the air temps enough. Maybe the heat tape works better at raising temps than a heat matt would?

u can also use the light ( doesnt affect the snake in any way)

watever works best and as lozzer already said, a UTH will not affect the air in the viv if its wooden, if u have a wooden viv u will have to put the UTH inside the viv and make sure its controled by a rehostat etc.

heat tape also works fine

never use a hot rock as these have the tendency to burn reptiles.
