MY POOR BABY!!!!! My corn snake Rose is gone... She either got out (which I dont think so because the lid was closed) or was eaten today by her tank buddy Cocoa. I know I was told about potential cannibalism, but they had been together for 4 months straight with out incident. He has always been my "attitute baby". But I never gave it a second thought, because he was always next to her, kind of like guarding her. I didnt think he was capable of this. I saw Rose yesterday, so he had to have eaten her sometime today. I just dont understand it... I feed them very well, they are all WELL taken care of.... Why??? My husband, who saw him a few days ago and again today and says that he has doubled in size... I have been in tears all day. I am so heart broken.

MY POOR BABY!!!!! Are you SURE she didn’t get out? I had one do the Houdini act while I was away. I found that even though the ends of the lid were clipped, the center where it is hinged pushed up quite easily. Is your lid hinged?

no, but I searched EVERYWHERE, turned my room inside-out. I lifted the beds, (even the box springs) emptied the drawers, shut the doors/windows. stuffed towels under the doors, checked the closet, and under the stairs... I have to check my kids room next, Im not giving up yet, but he is so much bigger then what I saw him last... I dont know.... THIS SUX

MY POOR BABY!!!!! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOW!!! Hold the presses. My snake.. (get this!) Hoodeenee, has escaped 4 times now.... So you can see the reason for the name.. First i thought he escaped, but he was burrowed in a corner that i didnt dig through.. The he went MIA for 3 months... Found him, a few months later i got a new viv, another escape, found problem, fixed it... Now i get a new 55 gallon viv, another escape.. damn, i found the escape area.. He had pushed up on the hatch and flatened himself to squeeze through, so im redoing it now... Moral of the story is, they are good at finding tiny ways out...
So...
Searh along walls for nice, dark areas for them to hide in, remember it is easier for them to move along a wall, and more secure for them.. its safer in their little minds. rarely will they travel across the plain wide open spaces of the middle of the living room to get to the other side.. they will go the absolute longest way, along the walls...
if they find a spot, like a broom closet to hide in, they will go in there, under a crack in the door, and look for a secure spot...
last hiding spot for hoodeenee was around the living room wall, into the broom closet, climbed up a suitcase and hid in the nook created by the handle, with a duffle bag sitting on top.. you have to think like a snake....
imagine you are slithering away from the viv, along the wall, check the first place in each direction along the wall, that has a dark preferable warm, area to hide in, then search.....
last time took me like 3 days but it finally hit me, then i tried this technique and it worked within like 5 minutes...
also I heard that you can set paper bags along the walls in the house, start with the room with the viv, and around 10pm or 11pm turn the lights off and sit there in the dark and listen for something to rub on the paper bags..
GOOD LUCK...
but also remember to check your viv for loopholes.. i had a sliding door on my first viv and my hoodeenee escaped when a hatchling,, try and find and seal any ways out so your other one doesnt escape.....
again GOODLUCK

it looks rather plump so its a big possibility that it did eat the other one how ever I would hope that’s not the case but that is a risk you run when housing them together best of luck

MY POOR BABY!!!!!
Just curious, was there a massive size difference?
If yes, then it is possible- but in all fairness they should not have been housed together if this was the case. I am all for housing together- But ONLY if they are the same size, in a large viv etc etc.
If, however they were the same size, surely there would be a few factors to take into account, like-
When a snake eats another of the same size, it is unlikely that it would have a smooth appearance- the snake inside would cause ’lumps’ where it has to have been forced down, in order to ’fit’.
It is clearly a young snake. Even in adults, if one did swallow another of the same size- there is a very high likelihood of Regurgitation-
Especially if handled the same day, in such a way that it is coiled around your wrist- as it is in the photo’s.
Young Corns especially, as mentioned by others, are amazing escape artists. I find it hard to believe, unless the other was a lot smaller.
I would not give up on looking EVERYWHERE!!! They can get into the smallest areas. My tip is switch off all heating and appliances in that room (move the tank if necessary) & switch on just one heat mat & leave it on the floor. Cover it with a towel, & place a hide on it, & maybe even a mouse. If the room is still warm, try switching on a fan. The idea is that the heat mat is the only source of heat available.
Good Luck!

if those pics are very close in age it defiantly looks like it ate somthing big what do you feed it normally didnt you say it had just eaten anyway? BUT....... i just went through same problem my snake got out and i have no idea how he had to have made himself paper thin soo dont worry to much just look in the dark places against the wal but waht i did was rig up a heat lamp to shine on the floor in hope he would go to the heat i spent hours looking for him no luck i thought he was out the door but one day i ran to the potty and looked down and there he was right under the bathroom door im sooo happy no one stepped on him or slammed the door on him. kepp looking but they uusally appear when you least excpect it!!!!

MY POOR BABY!!!!! My guess would be that the snake escaped. It doesn’t look to me like the lump is big enough to be a cage mate even if it was smaller than this snake. If you look at the post Warning 2, Those snakes obviously swallowed something too big for them but I barely see a small lump in your snake. Good luck finding it!

MY POOR BABY!!!!! HEY WAIT A SECOND!!!! Your snake might still be out there somewhere.. ALLL of the canibalism pics I have seen where the snakes were roughly similar ins size, even if a smaller snake got eaten. there are consiferable visual lumps all along the eater.. The eaten snake gets all folded and twisted inside the stomach... You wouls for sure be able to tell if there was canibalism going on.. your pic just looked like a plump snake but not a single fold, or lump.....
Please try looking for the snake again... try looking in all the warm areas, its been a week now, im sure your little one found a nice place to hide for a few days... then try placing a pinky near a hide with a heat pad under a towel under it.... in the same room as the cage.. its gonna eat soon, and then its gonna need to sleep...
try it, from the pics im relly sure there wasnt a snake in the belly...

MY POOR BABY!!!!! absolutely...make sure whatever you have your snakes in are appropriate for what it is...most hatchlings can escape from a hole the size of a pencil eraser...make sure there are none of these, then you will be alright...the only time i have had one escape, is when it wasn’t in a properly lidded tank...so just make sure....

all the air holes are smaller than a pencil eraser. I made sure of that... I think (if she did escape) that my girls were playing with her (and they wont admit it) or I didnt close it after feeding her. I dont know... But, Cocoa just ate a fuzzie!! I think that she is somewhere in the house, still, because he wouldnt of eaten a fuzzie if he had just eaten her a few days ago.... ??

In that case, I’d be inclined to say I’m 99% certain that she’s not been eaten! If the other had eaten her, that would be equivalent to a HUGE meal! So I very much doubt, he would eat anything for a while!!!
Don’t give up searching, she could appear at anytime!!!
Good Luck,

MY POOR BABY!!!!! There won’t necessarily be any lumps or twists visible if the snake did swallow it’s cage mate. Not all the pics of cannibalized snakes show the eater with lumps in the body. It depends a lot on how the snake gets swallowed, and on occasion the snake will just show one long smooth lump like is present when a mouse is eaten. I’ve encountered cannibalism in captivity and the wild and you can’t always tell.

But surely if the snake just ate a fuzzy, it is unlikely that it also ate it’s cage mate a few days ago? The other snake would be equivalent to a huge meal, so it would surely not be ready to eat again yet, in my opinion.
