 Heating ?

Ok, SO I have my bubblegum in a sterlite, being the balck rat he is, he always climbs. NOw I have the temps in his cage perfeact, the problem is, there perfect on the ground and too cold up at the top where he alwasy is. I have had him sine the 8th of this month and have found him on the ground oncwe. I have tried many types of hides that my corns have loved, my milk loved, and even my BP. BUt he prefers to still stay no a little ledge where ytou can see him plain as day. I have even put in arboreal hides and he woudnt use them. I fed him 3 days ago, he had 2 pinkies bescause I didnt have fuzzies quite ready and he still has a knowticeble lump in him from not getting proper heat bescause he sticks to the top of his cage. So how owuld I go aobtu heating him way up in the air?

The only thing I can think of is to situate a heat lamp so that it provides heat closer to where he’s at. I’m not sure how you would do this though, as I’ve never used a heat lamp.

THats the problem, sterlites have closed tops. I put in a corn husk over the heat pad and gently put him in theat, so we will see if he satys on it.

You could put heat cable on the sides and/or lid. You could even wrap it around what ever he is climbing on in the cage. Be sure to use a rheostat cuz the cable does get pretty hot. I discovered that one of mine was avoiding the warm hide cuz it was too warm! Now that I have a dimmer, he goes there occasionally, but still prefers his cool hide.

Most likely though, you don’t need to worry about it. I would think if he felt he needed teh warmth, he would go over the hot spot on the floor. The corn husk is a good idea or you could use cardboard or anything else that makes a really tight super secure feeling hide.

That snake’s pretty! I almost bought an albino black X yellow but didn’t b/c it the guy said it had the temperment of a yellow & I couldn’t remember which were the nippy ones and it wasn’t originally the seller’s so there wasn’t much history on it. It was pretty though!
