i forgot who said this before but it is true they can not digest dairy. and no its not good just because it has a lot of calcium. snakes get all the calcium they need in their food. they get...meat and bone wich contains a lot of calcium...and other nutritions |

Milk is a food source fro mammles, reptiels are born fending for themselves(in most cases) or are soon after. Feeding on whole foods form the get go. Milk is fed by mothers to supplement their babies growth and development. Reptile babies are born form the get go just as well armed as adults, eveything fully mature (next to the reproductive system) not needing any more noursihment then adults. bottom line is THEY CANNOT DIGEST DAIRY DO NOT TRY IT |

ok, i just dont see why so many people, even my teacher, say snakes love milk and that they like it as a treat. This whole thing started when we read this sherlock holmes story about a guy who killed his daughter with a snake( a swamp adder) and used milk to train it,which the snake loved in the story, and the person who wrote the story based it on true facts and stories from scottland. |

Most MAMMAL cannot process cows milk, including most people. It stimulates mucus build up in the digestive tract, and contains a substance that is basically glue. The only thing that can break down the milk protines are baby cows, and a very, very small percentage of people. You snake cannot digest these protines, and the milk will do nothing but clog up his digestive system and give him a major stomach ache. And can you imagine what the feces would smell like? |

I agree that snakes don’t drink milk, but I know the story you are thinking of - "The Speckled Band" - isn’t that right? It’s his stepdaughter he kills so that she can’t inherit his money for her upcoming marriage. Fantastic story. It’s true he lures the snake back through the ventilator from her room into his using a low whistle and milk, but Arthur Conan Doyle, the author, evidently knew nothing about snakes! The author was a country doctor in Scotland in the 19th century and an amateur detective, making his stories up about characters he met, but they weren’t based on truth - they were invented. |
