 # of crickets per aquarium size?

Hello, I have been buying crickets in lots of 1000 and keeping them in a 10g aquarium Usually I order them at 3/4 in size. Not quite full grown. Was kinda wondering though how many should I reasonably expect to keep in a 10g tank? Do you guys think this is too many? I’m really just starting to keep them. I do put some egg crates in there standing up with a small bowl of food and water crystals. Top is screen. Most of the time tyey do great. This last time I started having a lot die off after only one day. Temps are fine. Not too sure why they seem to die.

Thanks,
Carito
