I have some questions on breeding crix.
1. Is it hard
2. what size tank do you need
3. what do you put in for them to lay eggs
how hot does it need to be
4. how can you tell male from female
5. what substrate
6.what do i feed them
7.Are the eggs hard to hatch

1. Not hard.
2. To start my colony I am using a 58 Qt. Sterilite tub. I will later have to start using the bigger tub.
3. I use little Rubbermaid storage trays filled with damp garden soil. 70 - 90 degrees F.
4. The female has a long tube like structure at her posterior end. It is this that she uses to lay eggs in the damp soil.
5. I wouldn’t use substrate. But it would be good to use egg cartons, paper towel rolls and such for them to hide in.
6. Chicken layer mash, crushed rabbit food they even make cricket chow. Make sure you have a water dish with cotton balls in it to keep them from drowning.
7. It takes about 21 days for the eggs to hatch.
