 Hoarding?

I just observed some very interesting behavior.

Normally I feed my crickets a mix of fresh greens and gut load, but today I decided to add a few aquatic turtle pellets, thinking that it would give them more of a variety (yes, I spoil my breeders)
an hour later, I returned to check on them, and the 20 or so pellets that I had put in were gone. Thinking that it was odd for two dozen crickets to go through almost two dozen rock hard 3/16 inch pellets in under an hour, I decided to go through the tub... lo and behold, they had carried them to the bottom of a piece of egg crate. is this hoarding behavior normal, or just an odd fluke? I tried to get pictures, but my camera’s pretty fubar at the moment.

mine did the same thing with some pellets i put in there, i thought it was cut how they carried them, i lost some melies in my cricket tank and the crickets carried them around too, i figured they just did that as cricketness

Yeah, I had put some crix with my mealies once and the crickets took them everywhere with them. Mine like to chew on the cardboard crates even tho they have food

oh man today was crazy, i put this insect i found outside my backyard and i put it in the cricket cage. THEY WENT NUTS!!!!they all went after it ripping it limb from limb(literally).

what kind of insect did you put in? mine go nuts when i put pellets in and carrie them to their "secret" cricket tube.

well, im also breeding mealies so when i put a mealworm beetle(one that was gonna die)in the cricket tank they go crazy.its good for them i believe(good for the crickets).

I agree. It gives them a little event in there life. And plus, They just get that much more nutrients.
