 Crickets on dirt

i just decided to raise crickets because I have 2 white’s tree frogs, 2 leopard geckos and 2 Fire belly toads and crickets are expense.

I set up a plastic-clear rubber maid container. In this container is about 3--5 inches of compost mulch, egg carton hides. I also have dirft wood, for them to climb around on. Reading other’s post I will put a lamp on them durring the day.

Is their anything else I need? Any suggestions?

 Crickets on dirt

Hi, I buy my crickets in bulk, little cheaper than the pet stores.

What you can do is: in the rubber made container, put paper towels down on the bottom, water source, food source, then if you have one of those food storage containers, cut a hole in the lide, seal the container shut, put soil inside of it. cuts down on the messes, and the crickets will lay inside that container. kepp the climbing stuff in there also.
Just make sure you take the dead crickets out all the time, somehow they are dealy to the live crickets.

I hope this helps, oh in the bigger rubber staorage container that they will be housed in, cut vents at the top of the lid, get some kind of screen with very small holes and glue it completely, leaving no spaces for runaway crickets.

 Crickets on dirt

i put my crickets (500 at a time) in a 5 gallon bucket with a ripped in half eggcrate and some toilet paper rolls. no need to do anything fancy or go out and by a tub for them. if it gets colder then ideal you can put a hood lamp on top.

i have them on about 3/4 in. of dirt from my backyard and it cuts the odor down to almost nothin (bacteria breakin down cricket poop).

as long as the dirt has no pesticides or anything it’ll be fine.
