House cricket A.K.A Brown cricket
Sex them? Easy, a female have a third needle like thing call a ovipositor on her back althought you can’t really tell when they are still young.
What to feed? Veggies & fruits ( lettuces, cucumbers, carrots, apples, orranges...etc). But also some nutrient values supplement such as breads, dry oatmeals, cat/dog foods and rabbit foods. You can pretty much feeds it anything.
How warm? Optimum in the 80s to low 90s F range. Althought it can survive at room temperature unless the room is really cold. Just remember their growth depend on the temperature. Hotter temperature = Faster growth but shorter lifespan, Colder temperature = Slower growth but longer lifespan.
Water source? Unless you give them new veggies & fruits daily then you will need a water dish for them to drink. Remember they are stupid and will drown in the water dish. Make sure the water level is shallow so they can’t drown.
Escape? Adult crickets cannot climb up smooth surfaces such as glass and acrylic. However I’n not really sure about Pinheads( baby crickets) being able to climb up glass or acrylic however I know that they can climb up surfaces that are otherwise impossible for adult crix to climb. Crickets & Pinheads cannot climb pass the clear packaging tape, so just tape them around the top of your enclosure.
Places for them to hide? Yes you need to provide them a places to hide away from the light and also to reduce them from eating each other. Egg crate, empty toilet paper roll...etc. Remember more room and places to hide = less cannibalism.
Substrate and humidity? DO Not put substrate in the enclosure unless you want them to lay their eggs. Keep the humidity(do not mist in the enclosure) low to prevent mold and fungus.
Can they bites you? Yea they can bite you if they can’t escape from you hand. Adult cricket bites can hurt.
Crickets molt Crickets molt several times before reaching adults. After molting they are all white and soft. This is the time when they are most vulnerable to getting eaten by other crickets.

Enclosure & Materials to rear them
Make sure the crickets cannot jump pass the enclosure height You can rear them in aquarium tank or in rubbermaid container.
Heat Source Ceramic, infra red or normal incandescent bulb. Under tank heater are not very affective at warming up the ambient air temperature. Also you want to get a thermostat to control the tempeature of the enclosure.
A thermometer is alway nice to have

That is about it and if you have any further question regarding anything above or just want to know how to breed them then asked me and I might post it later.

Generally not everyday, cleaning the enclosure with soap and water should be once every couple of months or so. I clean out the food (veggies) when it look stale, dried or moldy. But you need to take out the dead cricket every chance you get and also maybe dumping their poops out every weeks.

It depends if you have or going to breed alot of crickets or not. Remember stacking alot of egg cartons help to give it more of a surface area for them to roam around. I have a 10 gallon aquarium that I don’t rear crickets in althought my guess is that a couple of hundred can fit inside. I also have a 55 Liter Sterilite rubbermaid container which can house maybe 1000-2000 crickets, however I only have about 90 crickets in it.

also forget about using shallow water for them, use wet paper towerls(they suck the water from that and its 100% safe for them.)

to feed them to your pets just place them in the tank, the pets will eat them.Remember only feed food to your lizards about the length of between both of their eyes. male crickets chirp constantly from what i am doing now.

No only seldom adults bite. I do find its weird that I’m afraid to pick up or hold an adult cricket and more petrify to pick up the deads one to throw it away. I think the development of the back wings, their strong hind leg that hop alot and the phobia of dead thing are the reason. The funny thing is that I also have a Emperor scorpion that I’m not afraid to hold it.
