 Boarding crickets

So since the weather is warm, I dediced to house my crickets outside. That and my mom didn’t want them in the garage anymore.

Big Mistake. The ants came from who knows were and started to eat the fish flakes I had for food. Then when they got tired of that they ate my crickets. There were so many ants that they overpowered my crickets and ate them. I had mabey 50--100 crickets in the plastic rubbermaid tub. The lid was on as well, snapped shut.

Any one else have this problem?

Same thing happened to me except it was inside the house. I tried using oil, Vaseline, chalk and chili powder but none of them seem to work. Then I read somewhere where people with ant farm use Talcum powder(A.K.A baby powder) to prevent the ants from escaping, and guess what it really did work. Just sprinkle the Talcum powder around the Rubbermaid tub and you will not have any more problem with ants climbing into the tub.

Great to know this has happened to others. I will try your trick, I ordered more crickets and I acutally have to take them to school. Since now most of my animals are my classroom pets. It didn’t start that way, but that is how its ending up.

why did you take them to school? i can’t stand large amounts of people watching my pets and trying to pick them up and poking their cages.

Im a teacher so I control who goes over.

Also I teach the students about responsibilty and things like that. If you were to talk to them, they would tell you that you don’t stick your hands in the cage, or distrub the pet. Its not good for them. We also don’t poke/bang on the glass, again it stresses them out. They can look, but only if given permission, and only in pairs.

They also learn what goes into taking care of an animal. ie feeding and proper maintainance.

I love it and the kids do too.

Ok first off Im female its a little different.

Second yes, do you have student loan debt plus bills plus a lousy summer job as a life guard made you move back home.

Also I don’t know where your from but living in California espcially the San Francisco Bay Area is expensive and a Christian school teacher will find it very hard to live on their own.

Further more I just moved back into the area a year ago after finishing college, and have not found anyone to live with currently.

Plus I pay rent, so its not like Im free loading and living in my mom’s basement.
but then again I wouldn’t expect a teenager to know much about living situations or salarys.

She doesn’t make me, but as an adult I should be contributing to the household. Im not a moocher, and I don’t respect people who are. Moocher as an adult who still lives at home and sucks up peoples time and money and does nothing. Kinda like that creepy basement guy. My mom let me back in, and now that I have a full time job, Im giving some money back to her.

Whoa I would’ve never guess that a teacher would be a member of this forum. Anyway I think what you’re doing to teach your students responsibilty of taking care of the animals are cool. Also I live in the SF Bay Area and I understand what you mean, housing rent is not cheap.
