 Question about cricket eggs

i am new to breeding crickets and a have a few questions if anyone could help me..

first off, how do i know when the crickets are ready to breed? i dont think mine are old enough, most of them are about 1 inch long, but i’ve heard that they aren’t reaady to breed until you hear them chirp, which we have not yet.

also, how long does the breeding process last? rather, how do you know when the females have finished laying all their eggs so you can seperate the breeders from the eggs?

and what do i do to ensure the eggs will hatch - like do they have to be buried or can they be unconvered, do i add more heat and mosture, and things like that.

and one last thing - how long will it take the eggs to hatch from the time they are seperated?

thanks to anyone who could help me out

Yes when the male start to chirps it means he’s ready (This usually happens at night), however, the females also have to be old enough too or else no matting will take place. You can tell when crickets are old enough to mate when both gender wings are fully develop and the female ovipositor protrude about 3/4’’ out.

I believe there is no way to tell when the females have finished laying all their eggs other than if you observe them 24/7 until at some point when you don’t see them laying their eggs anymore.

Um.. let the crickets do their job, just don’t mess with anything. The eggs’ substrate need to be kept warm at all time around I would say around 80-90 degree fahrenheit. Beside heat, you need to always keep the eggs’ substrate moist or else the eggs will dry out.

This will depend on the heat factor. Higher temperature = hatch faster and vice versa. I use a ceramic bulb with a thermostat set at 86 degree fahrenheit and it took almost 3 weeks to hatch.

In my experience I bought 30 adult crickets and rear them in a rubbermaid container, next I get a small plastic container and filled it with the Eco Earth coconut fiber substrate for reptile sold at pet store or scope soil from my backyard(either one is fine), then I moist it and left it in the crickets bin. I would take out the eggs’ container a week later and put it into a different bin until it hatched.

Hope this help.
