 Breeding???

Well several weeks ago I when I threw some crickets into my crested gecko tank some of the crickets got into her lay box over night. So then the next morning I got them out. Several days later I realized that there were small crickets running around in the lay box. Like pinhead sized.

So then I thought it would be easy to breed crickets. So I put some vermiulite into my crickets tank so the females could lay eggs. I saw eggs scattered everywhere and was just waiting for the eggs to hatch and there are no babies in sight.

Do you know what happened? Am I to take out the adults after they breed so the eggs can hatch?

Did they adults eat the baby crickets?

Adults will dig up the eggs and eat them. Ya need to use a removable lay box with soil that you can transfer to a new "holding" cage. And remember.. baby crickets can climb almost anything so you need to make it escape proof.

Like the above mention, adult crickets will dig up the eggs and eat them. Don’t be surprise that the eggs are not hatching yet because it usually takes about 3 weeks for me before the cricket’s eggs hatched.

I think it’s a good idea to take all the uneaten crickets out not because they can potentially eat the eggs but more importantly at night when your crested gecko is sleeping, the crickets can take a nip at your gecko. I suggest you should take the crickets out after a certain hours if your gecko doesn’t eat them.
