 Tiny worm in cricket cage

Its a tiny black worm that looks like it has hairs on it!...what is it?...is it a parasite?...and is it safe to still feed the crickets to my gecko? i dnt know where it came from!

I think what you’re looking at is a nymph from a weevil of some sort. I’ve seen those before in my cricket’s tank. I don’t think your gecko will get sick off the crickets, but just to be safe you could throw those crickets away.

I read on the meal worm forum that it’s just a cleaner worm.. that eats dead crickets and there poop or something like that...i wouldnt worry about it

What you are seeing is a larval form of a dermestid beetle. You are right in that they are cleaner beetles in this situation-eating the leftover exoskeletons of the crickets. These beetles can become real problems in insect collections-they will eat away the prettiest butterfly in no time flat. These kinds of beetles are also used to clean carcasses of the left over sinew and muscles so that museums can just have a nice clean skeleton of something. Some members of this type of beetle can be pests though. For example, some are called carpet beetles and they really love wool. (Old carpets used to be made out of wool.) There are many, many more types of these including stored product pests. Hope this helps!!!
