 Cricket Cannibalism

I keep 25 crickets, give or take, in a 9x8 inch cookie tin (minus delicious cookies) I’ve covered the bottom with Quaker’s oatmeal put two slurpee carton diagonally so they can hide, and a piece of fresh fruit/veggie since I’m feeding them to my frog I don’t want to give them scraps or stuff that’s gone bad. Between yesterday and today I’ve had 3 crickets that were torn apart I saw a cricket eating one of the three dead ones which is why I assumed it was cannibalism and 2 other ones missing its hind legs. Am I missing a part of its diet because they are omnivores. 5 crickets aren’t a big deal but since they’re being fed I want them to have the best time before hand and being eaten my your nieghbors sure as hell doesn’t sound like that to me.

I forgot to add that I use this blue water gel as water and that the crickets are medium size but some have molted to large and the tin is large enough that they can run around (there’s a lot of open space) they run under the cartons when I open the lid to feed and checkup on them so they might be squishing each other I don’t know

I found that since I add a small piece of hard cat or dog food in with their other foods, that they don’t chew on each other anywhere near as much. I might loose one or two a month now.

You don’t need that blue junk, a piece of carrot, potato or brocoli will give them all the moisture they need. Toss in some high protein cat food or some fish flakes for protein.

Add some cat food high in protein, and make sure they have good ventilation.
