 FREEZING CRICKETS?!

Well, just came back from the reptile expo, bought 1000 crickets and got home and there are about 950 of them dead. My question is can i freeze the crickets and then feed them? My lizards dont care if they are alive or not.

We eat frozen and thawed food all the time. So I don’t see why not. I guess just make sure they’re thawed out well before feeding...

WOW! That’s a shame...But go ahead and freeze them. By the way how much did those 1000 crickets cost? I am so tired of buying 25 crickets at a time at PetSmart!

LOL they are out of their mind. and whoever pays that is out of their mind. I can order 1000 crickets shipped to my door over night and arrived alive for 33 bucks.

Then I breed them so that I will never have to buy crickets again.

crickets are full of bacteria be careful durring the freezing and thawing prosses. u know how they smell really bad when dead? well thats bacteria and amonia breaking down the cricket. as longg as they dont smell before u freeze them it should be fine. but honestly baking them at 350 till crispy would be more ideal then freezing them!!

If you bake them, I get it kills all the bacteria, etc, but would it dry it out to the point that there’s not much left to eat except the outter shell. Always wondered about those dried crickets. Interesting topic. :)

well, I froze them a while back and have been using them. I simply put them in a cup of warm water for 20 minutes. They don’t have any smell at all either. To be honest, it’s very convenient and simple and alot easier then taking care of live, even though live is more nutritious.
