 Laying box?

i was wondering if i could make my substrate paper towels then just have a big laying box filled with vermiculite for the crickets to lay the eggs in? Figured it’d be easier to clean this way

Paper towels get very messy. I just use storage container tubs and use no substrate in the bottom of it for 2+ week old crickets. I put a container with vermiculite for eggs and also a wire mesh on top so that the crickets can’t eat the eggs. Also a cardboard ramp so the crickets can access the egg tub.

2 out of my 3 egg trays have hatched and I got thousands of pinheads. Seems to work for me!

I agree . No substrate. It just gets smelly and the crix hide in it so you cant clean it if it gets moldy or something. just egg crates

Plus, if you have a substrate in the bottom of the main tub the likely hood of that would be, eggs in the main tub, instead of in the egg tub. Not good!
