Most all of the posts here are good for first timers. Just spend some time reading here and google cricket breeding. Believe me you can find more than you really want to know on line about crickets. I have noticed that specific questions really get better replies on this form. Hope this helps, good luck.

Wow that’s a cool Idea! Did you just cut out a hole and use a keeper top on there? And are you breeding them too? Or just keeping them?

 Crickets

I’ve heard that its actually pretty easy to breed them. You’ll have to give the females something moist to lay her eggs in (wet cotton balls work well). And make sure the temperature is warm. Also in case you didn’t know the females have a black tube-type thing by their back legs that help them lay their eggs its called an ovipostier or something like that. Hope this helps -Teresa

LOL nope not breeding them and yeah I just put a top of a critter keeper that I did not need on the top and hot glued it and it houses anywhere from 10 to 1000 crix.

How long are you able to keep them alive for? What size do you start with?

Wow I think I’m going to have to try your setup there! I’ve been getting sick of hitting the store 2-3 times a week! And you know you can’t just buy crickets when you go!

I would think 1/2 inchers would be the small ones I’m buying. It’s great that you’re able to keep them alive that long. I think I’ll try 500 and see how it goes. I’ll definitely be able to use them once I get the RETFs too.

Thanks for the pics it’s a great cheap idea.

No problem I am glad to help. And yeah I was having such a hard time and the price 10 cents a cricket it was not working out for me at all so it is WAY easier to buy by the 1000 or 500 and if some do die it is not a big deal at all cause there is so many and I keep mine on fish food flakes and a WHOLE bunch of other gutloads it costs me a lot but the crix are healthy.lol
