Can crix get diseased? I have been keeping crickets (for my frog) for a few years now and have never experienced this before. First let me tell you my set up then I will explain the problem. I have a crix keeper with four tubes. I only buy around 25 crix at a time but the carrier could hold much more. I use gel (plain) for their water source and for food I use several different things (potato wedges, carrots, cricket food from the petstore, fish flakes, etc.) I have been successful at keeping them alive for a reasonable amount of time. Well, I got a new batch of crix (25ct.) yesterday and today there are 19 crix dead. I have never had but 1-3 crix die at one time before. And you know how crix are normally dried out and "crunchy" after they die, well these were all moist, squishy, and gross. They also had changed color from brown to black. Does anyone know if crickets can get diseased? I have six left from that batch and do not want to feed them to my frog if they are "sick". Anyone know how these crix may have died? Thanks in advance.

Can crix get diseased? Your water might not be de-clorinated? Because i forgot to de-clorinate my water one time and it killed about 100+cricket’s overnight. And when cricket’s die they put off a toxic gas that can kill the other cricket’s so that’s why i clean out all my cricket’s that are dead every day.

Can crix get diseased? I don’t use regular water for them, I use the store bought gel. I have used the same kind for a few years and change it often to prevent bacteria from forming.
Thanks for the tip on cleaning out dead crickets daily due to the toxic gas that can kill other crickets. Really gross but good to know!

Can crix get diseased? yes its gross but if you don’t want 50-500 crickets dead in a week you have to clean them all up, and if u dont it will really stink. here is a pic of my cricket tank:

the bottom is filled with alot of fish flakes and the paper towel looking think is a desin i made were u get a small water bowl, put a paper towel one top of the empty water bowl. then u put water in the water bowl and the paper towel will soak up all the water then every day u put a little more water in there so that the paper towel dont dry out. (number one couse of cricket death is de-hydration) and i got 2 eat cartons with like 100+ crickets in there. any more questions? i no alot about crickets but sometimes i dont no it all haha lol.

Can crix get diseased? What size are your crickets? Crickets will darken and look dead when they molt. You can usually see a "hump" on their back when they are molting. They do this about once a week or so until they are full grown. Just make sure they are truely dead before you throw them out. Good luck..
