 Crayfish tank.

i have a 30 gallon tank filled 5/8 with water i am planning on getting 2-3 crayfish i was wondering if i could put some snails in the tank with em.i don’t see any way the crayfish could eat the snails.

If you house crayfish togethger they will kill/eat eachother.

Yeah, they are cannabalistic, but since it’s a fairly large tank you *might* have a chance with it. You’d have to make sure there were plenty of places to hide, just please don’t be suprised or upset if they kill one or two of eachother, that’s just in their nature which is why they are best kept alone, and they will eat the snails if given the chance. Crayfish usually keep a tank pretty clean anyway since they eat whatever’s around, so you shouldn’t really need snails.

i didnt know crayfish were cannabalistic because i went to this chinese pet store which only had fish and crabs and stuff and they had like 25 crayfish in the same tank they were pretty nice some were blue

People put them together in stock tanks a lot, and usually you won’t see them fight, but you might notice some missing limbs on a lot of them, and over an extended period they kind of start to disapear. We once had two crayfish together with a divider in the tank, one climbed over while we were on vacation, when we got back one was gone except for part of it’s head...then a couple of weeks later the other one laid eggs. Long story short, there were about 200 baby crayfish in the beginning, and only a handful left after about a month, and that was with PLENTY of extra food for everyone. They will literally eat anything possible, even eachother if given the chance.
