 Hey guys read this

Well, what kind of person are you? This will determine a good dog for you. I really don’t recommend just getting any dog breed that ’look cool’ or ’act cool’ as you could really rut yourself with a nasty dog accidentally that way. Some small dogs bite and get spoiled easily, others wont shut up at all. There’s also a training difficulty for different breeds that you need to consider and maitenance.

Answer these questions:

How often will you be home?

At what age do you plan to get this dog?

How often will you walk the dog?

How often will you groom the dog? (or take it to a groomers?)

What activity level would you like this dog to have?

What purpose do you plan to have this dog for? (guard, buddy, company, friend to run around and play with to no end, etc. Come up with a few reasons if possible.)

What don’t you want in this future dog?

How much time are you going to spend on obedience training and home training with this dog?

You should also visit your local shelter and ask them what kind of dog would be best for you; see a few and perhaps find one you connect with. But first you need to ask yourself what you really want this dog for and what type of dog you’re looking for. Therefore you’re not going to end up with the wrong choice.

 Hey guys read this

Well, and don’t anyone take this the wrong way because I own one, a welsh corgi (preferably pembroke) would be a nice choice. They’re a small to medium dog that’s basically a big dog with short legs (25 to 30 lbs) and a fox-like face. Easy to brush, VERY easily trained, and a good companion. It’s a herding breed, so will need to be walked a few times in the week (preferably every to every other day) and you’ll have to teach it tricks and do the tricks regularly so the dog feels like it has a job. The tricks don’t have to be hard; it can be anything from fetch to using a dog backpack while walking. If you want a dog that you want to train multiple things including different styles of command or Loads of tricks for preperation in some dog training job, it’s a good all-purpose canine to start with.

If you’re looking for something smaller as a more cuddle partner, you can look into Dachshund, Pug, Italian greyhound (Awesome cuddle dog, but should never be let outside without a leash on due to how bloody fast they run), or Pekinese.

If this is a first dog or you’re unprepared for small dogs, try to stay away from terriers as, untrained and unsocialized, not taken for many walks, left alone too long, can be absolute murder.

Oh, also, regardless of the dog you choose, remember to treat it as a dog and not as a child or stuffed toy. Don’t carry it around everywhere and don’t spoil it, keep from over-feeding it as well as correcting the dog should it growl at or jump on others. Anything you find as ’funny’ for the dog (like running from the vacuum, puppy growling, or the dog generally freaking out and/or being posessive over something) should be stopped as it’ll grow into that bad action and it’ll turn out as a major pain to train out of.

Anyway, try your local shelter to see if they have any of the said breeds, even if it’s a mix. I also know that there are some small dogs, like the chihuahua, that have rare melo exceptions in the group which also turn out to be nice dogs. So it’s fun to check around shelters and see what kind of dogs and personalities their are.

2nd’ed. Also, dogs are not disposable, if you adopt a dog that is not exactly what you wanted. Too bad, learn to love the little guys. Most chi’s aren’t very mellow, mixed breeds are sometimes mellow. It all just depends. Also, a dog does not mature until he/she is 2 years tops (not one year, guys. ;]) So maybe a three year old pup for you?

K, if you get the corgi, there are 2 other warnings; one I gave already. The first is not to overfeed the corgi regardless of how cool it looks. Avoid Kibbles and Bits (or other cheap brands) and get a better quality brand such as ProPlan or ScienceDiet. They can get overweight very easily and it can prove fatal after a point, specially to the back and legs. The second is that Corgis, being herding dogs, will bark. They’ll bark loud when excited, so keep that limited and correct the dog every time it does bark to show it a right and wrong time to do so.

I like corgis, though. They’re a very fun breed and very smart. I was able to teach my welsh corgi how to respond to commands in word, whistle, and hand signals and he knows a huge variety of tricks. He’s unhappy and bored if I don’t order the crap out of him and walking is absolutely manditory to keep his weight down and his activity levels stable (otherwise he’ll lick the couch, bark at things outside, or do other bored habbits.)

 Hey guys read this

Remember: Pembroke welsh corgi. The cardigan has the tail and more hound-like looks. The cardigan is far more like a herding dog and is alot rougher and territorial compaired to the pembroke. The Pembroke can be kept in a small home or apartment (provided it gets those walks).

Go for Nutro, or Raw meats! Most vets are payed by the brands that they stock, so they might not be the best brands. ;]

Oh, and since Nutro and the other brands have been on recall. You might be interested in Wellness Super5 Mix. I can post a dog food grading scale if you’d like. :]

 Hey guys read this

;) I use ProPlan myself. The vet never recommended it and it keeps my dog in shape. Nutro for dogs is sevierly expensive and getting the dog a raw diet is also tough. I only keep to dry food (as wet food is fattening) and Proplan hasn’t been hit by the recall. =]

 Hey guys read this

The thing I have noticed with corgis is they do NOT like to be held down. They will become very aggressive when you have to hold them, example at the vets office. I personally dont recommend one if there are little children in the house, but then again, I have never owned one.

As for food, I really Eagle Pack Holistic Select. Great stuff, just expensive.

 Hey guys read this

A corgi getting held down, like with any medium to bigger herding dog, can be trained out of very quicklyif it proves an issue. My corgi was perfectly fine getting hefted around as a puppy and when he hit a year, he didn’t prefer it (he also didn’t like getting his claws trimmed). But after some food and clicker training (and regular submission when he did something unwanted), he came to understand very quickly that holding his paw and holding him/picking him up was perfectly fine. The only real time he did it was when he was when he was riled up, excited, and thought I wanted to play, anyway.

I’ve known many people with corgis (as well as myself, of course) who sit with them on the couch while watching the tele and two owners’ corgis who get on the lap of their owner while on a chair (though I can’t imagine how with those little legs). All my corgi wants to do is sit with me and get hugged/petted and I’ve known others who say the same.

The only issue with children and corgis is the corgi trying to herd the children. Heel nipping is a herding breed trait towards sheep and other such animals and it can also be very quickly trained out of if you correct it when it happens, give the dog positive reinforcement for stopping, and walking with the dog on a regular basis to keep energy levels in check. An adult corgi should already be trained out of it provided it isn’t a corgi on a farm who does it as part of the job ;)

 Hey guys read this

Hold off buying a dog froma petstore. I won’t even go into any details besides BYB, and pawners. If your dog is from a petshop it’s most likely from a BYB.

http://www.petstorecruelty.org/boycottpetland.htm

Help out an animal in NEED, wait until you find a cute little guy at a shelter that needs you. Not a dog that has a monthly payment, they may be cute. But no dog is worth 1500 dollars.

 Hey guys read this

I’m sure there are some breeders in your state that have corgis, look online for corgi breeder in Wisconson.

Some petstores rediculously overcharge for dogs. I wouldn’t pay more than 500 dollars for a pure-bred corgi, in all honesty.

Check more than one shelter and tell them to keep you in note incase any corgis are for adoption there.
