 MAKES ME SO MAD!! (Quest for new dog)

I am in tears right now, because my mom is so stupid and heartless!! Since it’s been 2 1/2 months since Peaches passed, we’ve begun searching shelters (I feel like we’ve searched every shelter in Illinois!) and every time I come upon a dog I think could be perfect for our family, my mom turns it away. I think we are all just turning dogs away because there’s one thing wrong with all of them...they aren’t Peaches oh my God I’m bawling now! I want my baby back sooooooooo bad. I NEED to pet her one more time...feel her soft fur in my fingers, rest my head on her shoulder, cuddle her one more time, play with and run her another time with her body back to normal. I’ve basically turned suicidal since she’s left :-( she was my only best friend I could turn to for love and support 100% of the time and I will never recover. Anyway, back to my post. My mom is so judgemental that it makes me break out in tears. She has this "criteria" that’s so specific it basically cuts out every dog. So far, it has to be as small or smaller than Peaches (15 lbs.), a light color (like Peaches; I found an amazing dog, but nooo, it’s BLACK!!), no long ears (short and somewhat floppy, like Peaches), no messy puppies, must be Peaches’ temperament, etc. How could she be so cold as to turn away dogs that really NEED homes? The larger, playful big dogs, not the silly, tiny puppies that fit in your pocket that everyone wants. I found the dog that I know for a fact that God and Peaches must have sent to a shelter to be there for us. This dog, Jackson, has the same face as Peaches, and I can see Peaches within him! And get this; he has been at the local shelter for 4 YEARS!!! It’s time he found a home. But noooo, he’s to big according to mom!! (20-30 pounds, PLEASE!!) and he has that adorable pit bull grin (he’s a terrier mix, like Peaches) where he wrinkles up his muzzle, and my mom says he looks vicious because of it. I need some support, she is being a B****!!!!!!!!

i know how it must feel. Parents can have huge problems, i understand how hard it is to talk to people, so try writing her a note, on how your feeling and tell her to write back...

On thing you should never do is forget peaches, no matter how many people say just forget. forgetting doesn t do any good, but remembering nothing but death is worst, look at the positives..and jen, don t go to hard on your self. before i was so sad and upset, i was ready to take a drug overdose, but I told myself i d wait till friday, and by then, i was still sad, i was just ready to do it, when i relized..whats this gonna do? make other people in my life just as sad as me?
then i flush the pills, best choice i ever made...so dont let it get to you. she lived a long happy life

Hey,

I’m sorry that you’re going through this. Losing a best friend like that is one of the hardest things.

Maybe your mother has put down those requirements for a dog because she is just not ready and she can’t let go of Peaches yet. No, I agree, don’t forget her. But do let go. She is in a better place and someday you will be able to pet her again, you will be able to feel her soft fur in your fingers again, and you will be able to rest your head on her shoulder. But as of right now, you both have to learn new things before you can be together again. Suicide is not what Peaches would want you to do. It would make her very sad. Let go of her death and celebrate the times you had together. Yes, it will hurt for a long time and you will cry, but that’s ok. It only means that you miss her and that you deeply loved her. It sounds like you’re ready to do that by the fact that you are searching for another dog, but maybe Mom isn’t.

Suicide isn’t the answer. I understand that losing a loved one is difficult. I understand that life’s tough. Don’t let this experience tear at you though. Be strong. Peaches had a very fulfilled life. You and her had a strong relationship. Comitting suicide isn’t going to do a thing for you. It’s not going to solve your problems. I know it’s hard, but you need to be posotive. Don’t think about suicide. It’s not the answer.
There’s no guarentee that life in the "next world" will be wonderful. It could be far more worse. Don’t risk every thing you have now. I doubt your family and friends would want you to. Peaches wouldn’t want you to do some thing like that either.

Now I’m REALLY mad and I still have tears stuck to my face (looking at pictures of her and listening to "I Miss You" by Miley Cyrus which makes me cry every time I hear it, because I think of Peaches. So, I asked my mom, "Mom, do you REALLY want another dog?" and she told me "No, not really (she made a grossed-out face cuz she saw some dogs nearby), if we did, we’d just be doing it for you and Jaci (my sister)." So now, I DEFINITELY don’t want another dog, and I can’t even say the words "New dog" without bawling cuz I will NEVER replace her and getting a new dog would be unfair, because I can’t love another dog again...

Jeni,

I know what your going through. I think we’ve all lost someone very near and dear to our hearts. When I was younger I lost my rottie who was a year younger than I was but he was my guardian my brother and my friend. I cried and cried and cried and i’m crying now thinking about him. It’s really hard when you lose a family member. Just remember that we’re all here for you, and although I’m sure you’ll hear this a million times over, Peaches wouldn’t have wanted you to be upset. Don’t be mad at your mom. She misses Peaches too and hates seeing you and your sister upset and crying so it’s doubly hard for her. If you want to talk feel free to pm me. I’ve gained a lot of insight into moms and how they work and maybe I can help you somehow.

Not a kids book, but a real NOVEL. Like Marley and Me, or Merle’s Door. If I calculated right, it will be about 280 pages and 17 chapters, plus commentary from my family, bible verses and beloved dog sayings, and about 20 pages of full-color photos of Peaches. I have been working on it for about 2 months and have a fantastic start. I hope to be finished by early August. I am looking for a publisher, and considering self-publishing. Writing is my God-given talent and I am glad to use it :-).

I’ve also been taking website and desktop publishing classes in a College for Kids class at the local college, and I’m putting the finishing touches on Pocket Pals, a fun website that has care guides, pictures, pet tips, and more for kids and teens. I am also in the process of writing a series called Pocket Pets as well, and they will be self-illustrated books for kids around 8-12 years old, and and their will be 8 installments in the series (I am writing multiple books at the same time). My parents don’t know about any of this, and I’m so excited!!

Aww peaches death was hard for you as i know the day that buster our heeler passes away i will be heart broken...maybe you guys started your search too early and are just no ready for a new dog?


you could take artists adive like on groomer has it when they had to groom the shelter dogs....just find the one u feel needs you the most and get it :)

But good luck with the book of course!

Hey Jeni, great to hear you’re feeling better. I just wanted to suggest that you might enjoy fostering a dog? That way you wouldn’t have to spend forever finding the perfect one, but could still have some doggy time without having to commit to another dog when your family isn’t ready. It might be a great way to focus your energy : )

Sounds great!! Jackson definitely needs us the most. NO DOG should EVER have to stay in a cramped room with like 15 other dogs for almost 4 years. And he has the exact personality I want. The MOMENT I stumbled upon his page I knew he was the one and that we were gonna be best friends. My mom’s softening to the idea, I just gotta work on it.

p.s. ugh!! I’m going to church camp 3 hours away in the middle of nowhere from Sunday afternoon until Friday evening next week, and obviously we’re not allowed to use the internet, so no Repticzone for a whole week! But I’m still excited to go, my mom and I are going shopping this morning (it’s 8 am here) for the stuff I’ll need (I take off at like 1 p.m. tomorrow) and I think we’re gonna stop by Petco (she automatically takes me there now most of the time because I always beg to go look at the animals and end up staying for an hour, or more :-) tehe
