 Hello

Hello, I am new here, just thought I’d introduce myself. My name is Elizabeth, i live in Columbus ohio with my boyfriend and we have our own little animal family. I have two snakes, a taranchula, a dog and a cat. You guys are probably more interested in the dog though so I’ll tell you a bit about him. He came to me from a woman who bought him and wasn’t really thinking of how big he was going to get or how hyper he would be. He is a Harlequin Great Dane. Name is Ace. He is a great big baby.

Please feel free to comment, I would love to hear what you think

 Hello

the nose color is referred to as ’mottling’ some danes both solid and harles can have it or a solid colored nose, it depends on pigmentation...essentially by AKC standards it is considered ’imperfect’ and a flaw marking him as not show quality though still cute... other dogs boxers for example some pitties will have it... but it isnt common nor is it all that uncommon with ALL danes nor that color, it just depends on various things...

 Hello

Nah vitiligo is completely different, what your dobey has is a skin disorder that causes the pigmentation to disappear... mottling is simply the mixed coloring you see determined by genetics during conception but cute dobey!!!

 Hello

Although we’re not really sure of his exact age because we have no contact with his breeder and the woman who gave her to us didn’t help much, the vet guesses him at a year and a half. That type of nose is found more commonly in harleys then solids, although in some case can be found in solids. He isn’t show dog material not only because of his nose, but the woman also took him to have his ears cropped and the vet did a horrible job, the crop was only partial, working on getting that fixed. Although show quality is not an issue here, because he is neutered :). We love him all the more though because he is a big special baby!

What you just explained is vitiligo a disease that causes pigment in the skin.

She has actually been to several vets, she doesn’t just have a pink nose, she has through out her body.. in her ear, belly, legs, sides, tail, by her eyes on her head random white spots. Her lips which normally on a doberman are all black, are pink with black dots as her nose is. Vitilogo is a skin pigment disease, which causes you to lose pigment.

I know I explained what vitiligo is because I was stating your dog has that as a skin disorder Harles dont have it as a skinb disorder that mottling is completely different..I wasnt clear in my references, I was trying to say that your dog is a different case then her Harle

 Hello

yeah, that tends to happen alot, someone will get a dog they is is going to be soooo easy to take care of, and is just going to automatically be trained, but the never take the time to research size, needs, or proper care of the dog. It really ticks me off, just like large snakes.

 Hello

Oh i’d never buy an animal w/o knowing what i’m getting into. I did so much research on dobermans before i bought mine. I’ve never read up on danes though, have been thinking about getting one as a second dog, can’t decide whether i’d want another doberman, or a dane.

try crocodilians as well... try horses.... I have a mare I took in a month ago the lady had NO knowledge, She is three, she had not been wormed in the year the Lady had her...she had not had her hooves trimmed, she had not been fed a proper diet of roughage nor feed....when the lady did feed her she gave her sweet feed... (Imagine a 2 year old child eating out of a bag of sugar) this mare looked fat because of the worms once I dewormed her (once a week for a month straight) she was so skinny she looked like a bag of bones...was emaciated that she would eat her own manure or fall in the stall....had not had a clean stall in I dont know when.....and the ladys words?? "Well I didnt know they had to be wormed frequently" I wont even touch how disgusting the horses water was... I have a second horse that was crippled because they tried to break her at 12months old.... thankfully shes walking again..but same thing shoved in a stall..

Out of my two Danes Serafine was considered unadoptable due to aggression.. well he had come from an abused home...it took me MONTHS to get him to trust we decided to keep him, my second Dane Scooby came from a home that loved him too much... ie all he got was people food.. hes at a dangerous weight right now that we are trying to drop so that his joints dont get askew...the boxer was confiscated during a raid on a pit fighters house emaciated...we took him and the malamute mix we have been bottle feeding since he was 2 days old...all have permanant homes with us....I love the Dane breed though have always had one at one point in my life or another....
