 "Funny" Story

i was on vacation and the day we were leaving we got a phone call in the car. The lady says "we may have your dog my niece saw the poster and described it to me"My mom describes her and asks if its a match she says ....yes. then she tells us that she took her to the vet and got her shots a flea bath and a lot more. she probably spent around 100$. She already had shots. By the way she is micro chipped so she should have taken her the first day to the vet. She already had her a week and the lady said she was planning to keep her. Then she says she wants money and my dad calls her the next day and says we are not paying you ....Then she says.... OH.... she... ran away, and They were keeping her inside.
Opinions???
P.S. my dog went to where we use to live 4 years ago, but she never lived there with us

First I’d make SURE it’s your dog. If it is I would reimburse her for the vet bills etc.... If she still claims it ran away, call the police and have them go to the house with someone from the shelter with a scanner. That will prove ownership and maybe help her change her mind.

Good luck- let us know how it goes.

SHE might have actually been telling the truth I went on craigslist and someone described a dog and it sounded like its HER I am so excited we called but no one answered but she said she found her in a storm two days after she "ran" away from the other house

P.S. my mom was willing to pay her a little bit like 50$ until she DEMANDED it

IMO, the lady should have waited before spending money on the dog. She should have waited to find out if the dog was actually owned before she went and got the vaccines and flea bath done. I don’t think that those costs should now be on you.

 "Funny" Story

Good luck.....I hope it’s her.

I had a dog run off during an unexpected summer thunderstorm so I know the feeling. It took my Dad and I a week of searching (people saw her but she was so freaked out she kept running) before we found her three miles away headed in the direction of my Grandmother’s house.

Have to share a happy lost dog story. When Granny’s 17 year old, completely deaf and blind poodle got out of the backyard one afternoon, she was hysterical. Turned out a neighbor two houses away got home at 10:30pm. and spent 1/2 hour looking for what was whimpering. She ended up having to crawl into a storm culvert to free the dog from the branches and stuff the dog got herself tangled in. This poor girl was up half the night running to the store to buy dog food and cleaning up a very wet, dirty, cold, scared poodle. The next morning, after leaving a message at the shelter (that wasn’t open yet) she took the day off from work to take her to the vet and get meds. etc.... We also called the shelter and were finally reunited. When this angel wouldn’t even accept reimbursement for the money she laid out, we called the vet hoping she had paid by check or credit card so they could cancel it, but she had paid cash. Then she sent a thank you note for the thank you gift Granny sent her! Just proves there are good people out there.

I hope you get your dog back.....keep us posted.

 "Funny" Story

sounds like what happened to katie last week

see katie’s sometimes too smart for her own good and managed to push out the screen in our window, she got out and was gone for like 4 hours we could’nt find her looks all over the place.

we found her and like 5 little kids playing ball with her, my b/f jumped out and asked for his dog back, the littles kid’s dad said "see you guys i told you it was not a stray". my b/f felt bad the family had already gave her a new collar a new name and bought her food and toys in like the 3 hours they had her..they cried when mike took her...he felt bad...they still see her in town and call her dasiy duke as thats what they named her.

good thing about katie is her ears are tattooed with a number so it’s easy to identify her, when mike got her they where tattooed.

 "Funny" Story

you know, I have been following this thread and before i say anything let me say I understand and sympathize with a runaway dog...and I agree with Ib the woman should have waited before spending the money on the dog until the owner showed... so she shouldnt demand but your mom also should have offered to reimburse for the cost... this goes both ways...secondly ’take the dog first thing to the vet’ you dont know if the dog was found at night or at a time when said vet was closed...at least she didnt take her to a shelter where you would have had to pay to get her back anyway or call animal control and still have to pay....

IMHO I dont see why your raising a big stink it sounds like your dog is better off where shes at anyway..im sorry but on a chain/rope/tie is no way for any dog to spnd their lives you say you have tried anything and everything and she still jumps the fence apparantly you didnt try proper training... sounds mean but where shes at right now (IF thats where she is) seems better for the dog.. I have seen one to many dogs strangle themselves...of course my siberians were escape artists so they had a rather large pen with fencing over the top to prevent the need to climb, and cement laid to prevent digging out...

your wanting to find her a new home anyway but want to report the Lady not giving her back....why not call the woman if you truely want to say goodbye ask to see your dog one last time and see if the lady will let you visit your dog?? then you have the closure your dog is happy, well taken care of and you can still visit her?? at least she’s off the chain in your yard.....compromise is a beautiful thing

Good Luck

first off i DID read properly..... lets see...

yes. then she tells us that she took her to the vet and got her shots a flea bath and a lot more. she probably spent around 100$.

50 is only half of 100 so either you assumed she spent 100 and only spent 50 you dont have complete total, or shes only getting reimbursed for half and also your mother had CONSIDERED it until the woman "demanded" dont get snippy with me for pointing out...but... if someone is taking your ads down try posting her on craigslist, newspaper, put her ads up on windows...try petfinder you can also try hoobly though -I- personally wouldn’t have paid a vet until i was sure the dog was unowned...as for the collars they dont always work some dogs have little tolerance but good luck in finding her...

Since I have pets, I would never bring a stray into my house without having it checked out by a vet first. That would include a rabies, distemper vacc., flea treatment, etc... I just won’t take a chance exposing my pets to anything. If I’m not willing to do that then the animal goes to the shelter. Therefore I would have NO problem reimbursing anyone who found my dog those expenses.

Another good reason to have your dog micro chipped. Then when it’s scanned the vet can check if it’s up to date on vaccs. At least it should have a collar with ID tags. I’ve reunited several lost dogs with their owners when the people who found them called our office with the rabies tag number. That way we could tell them who the dog belonged to and if it was current on vaccs. or needed medical care.

I take in strays, its that simple but I to have pets...unfortuntely vets arent always open, I have a kennel in the back reserved, I dont take a stray into my home period... i have kittens im bottlefeeding on top of the dogs of my own and wont trust another without worrying if mine will get injured...but again turtlemom you prove a point...microchipping..even a collar with name and address something that lets another person know "Hey hes owned" all 4 of my guys have both if one fails theres a second failsafe right there now you say shelter..... I cant here the shelters dont take strays.... trust me I have tried....well lemme rephrase they "dont take in strays that are called in or picked up by another individual"

I actually reimbursed someone for one of my Danes, he got out wanted to visit the neighbors the Lady took him to a vet...I do my own vaccines (we have the vet consultant here) so they get rabies distemper ect she had him revaccinated had bought toys for him took him in....she didnt accept the money so I jotted down her address when i picked scooby up, and mailed her a check in a thank you card...but there shouldnt be an issue with the reimbursement of money..I dunno people are strange

Hi Celtic "Tigeress": Just a note from Vinny’s mom: He let me read this post, and I really don’t feel like I have to explain anything to you, I don’t know you and you don’t know us, BUT, you keep going on and on about this so, we offered to pay her ALL the money for the vet bills, even though, she was current on all shots and vaccines, we did not feel responsible to pay her money for DOGGY DAY CARE. Suppose she built a $500 doggy house for her, do you feel we should reimburse her that money, come on, there is a proper name for what she trying to do to us, it’s called EXTORTION. The police won’t do anything, because we never physically saw our dog on her property, so our hands are now tied. You seem to have all the answers, so what should we do next, just mail a check out for whatever amount she is demanding from us. Please do tell!!!

Also, she is microchipped, she could have taken her to any vet in our town and ran a Found Ad in our local paper, we live in a very small town. She made no attempt to find her owners "prior" to spending all this money. We have found several dogs and have always taken them in to be scanned for micro chips and did all we could to find the owners.

common now, we all need to chill out. This chick may very well have your dog, you can’t be absolutly sure of that. All you can do is offer to pay her if she can give you proof she has YOUR dog....if she is microchipped you should be able to know. Now stop your bickering please, thats not what we’re here for.

You are right about chilling out. We have offered to reimburse vet bills, I am not sure what else people here expect from us and it doesn’t matter, we have done all we can legally at this point. Like I said before, she could demand hundreds of dollars for all the items she purchased for the dog, where would it end, are we supposed to just pay her whatever she demands?? The police said she may even be trying to scam us some how. She is micro-chipped, but the woman says she no longer has her, and we cannot get a search warrant from the police to search her house. If we physically see our dog, we can take further action and have her scanned to prove ownership. I am not here to bicker, just post facts as to what led up to this whole situation. This is explained as much as it can be, and very clearly. The End

thats if she has your dog, too many scams going on... i could suggest a ton of things ie investigations ect but it would be pointless...the problem you have is trying to spot your dog...go to the neighbors have them keep a look out for you...ask them to take photos....some people would gladly help if a kid goes up to a door with "they stole my dog" you can ask for others... as for search warrant I have never seen one go out for a animal...BUT option...

make an anonymous call to animal control that you have reason to believe your dog has been taken and is at that residence then they as animal control have to investigate (In most places) within their jurisdiction and are seperate from actual law enforcement... by law they are required to investigate any random call.... if the woman is scamming you.... tell her your willing to reimburse if you see your dog first agree to meet up....if its your dog take photos of the woman with your dog THEN go to someone... if your dog is microchipped they can place her under your ownership....

but Eliza has a point...people suck its that simple and maybe she was hoping for a quick buck if she really does have her ask to see the vet bills as proof or get the vets number...that way your not paying for something that really didnt occur....
