well its hard to say without knowing anything about the dog or its surroundings...however I do know that when we had a fly problem our dog would get scaps on her ears, and we once babysat a dog that slowly turned into a giant scab and stunk.... from a food allergy... so it could be an allergy, could be flies, could be a few other things... only way to know for sure is to take him to the vet...

I don’t want to alarm you, but scabs on the head can be a symptom of worms, so watch your dog’s poop and see if there are little worms. You can take him to a vet and get meds to treats them. If you catch it early, it can be treated without a problem (not saying for sure that’s what the problem is)

I could get a picture but it doesn’t come on the computer correctly, we think it is flee’s, because i saw some flees in his hair and my brother found some eggs in his hair also. We got him a flee collar. We have also gotten him some flee shampoo. Would you suggest both or is the flee collar enough

neither is enough you need to go to your vet and get a flee and tick medication and you need to bomb your house if all you do is get a flee collar and use shampoo your going to keep having the flees and infestation could be horrible

If you’ve found flees on the dog, that’s most likely the cause of the scabs.

Flee collars don’t usually work, especially the cheap ones. The same goes for flee shampoos. Flee collars are only supposed to keep flees from dogs. They’re not meant to kill infestations. Flee collars usually can’t kill flee eggs. The best way to get rid of flees is to get a special liquid. I forgot what it’s called, but it kills flees within a short time period. You simply sqeeze some drop outs between your dogs shoulder blades and it works magic.

FrontLine Plus is really good about that...it’s like the #1 vet recommended I think we asked my vet about it...

my dog had the same problem, but on his tail, it is more then likely either fleas or dry skin, I don’t know about frontline, I have always use K9 advantix for my dogs, best stuff out there. But to treat the scabs, there is this stuff called hot spot, go to any local pet store, they should have it. Put some of that on there, numbs the itchy sensation and helps to sooth your dog and they stop digging so bad they bleed, once you get that down, use a little neosporin to clear up the scabs and help them heel up real good. Also, there are specially medicated shampoos to help with the itchy, give your dog a bath in that before you start to aplly flea stuff, hot spot, exc. It could very well just be dry skin, that was ace’s problem. Good luck, hope all works out for you.
