 Cavalier King Charles Spaniel?

You can google it and come up with a lot of pictures. My daughter just got a King Charles Spaniel for my grand kids . She is kinda hyper ( actually both my daughter and the dog ),loves to jump and run but is extremely friendly . She rarely barks , has been easy to house brake and she’s great with the kids . Not a mean bone in her body . She is also very soft . My daughter has one other mix breed dog and two cats . The King Charles gets along with all of them.

This is the only King Charles Spaniel we have owned so I can not say that they are all as sweet as this one .

Personality wise, they’re a great first dog. They haven’t become so popular (like Lassie’s, Rin Tin Tin’s, 101 Dalmatians etc...) that they’ve been over/inter bred. Meaning the "puppy miller’s" haven’t ruined them with major health/behavioral issues "accidentally" bred into them..........yet.

I have a friend who breeds them and can have 24 at any given time with breeders, fosters, day care (lol), and I am always amazed at how well behaved and calm they all are!

As Skullkeeper said, they get along great with kids, other dogs and cats. They are very trainable, though if this is your first dog I strongly suggest investing in a puppy training class to at least learn the basics.

Now for the negative aspects of the breed.
1.) They are expensive to purchase..........a "pet" goes for $1,000, "show quality" can be $2,000.
2.) The biggest health problem I know of is heart related. Murmurs can be an issue.
3.) Grooming. They can be fairly high-maintenance in that respect. They come in 2 different coats, smooth or curly. Both require regular brushing to keep from matting. Be prepared to either spend a few bucks at the groomers every few months or learn how to use a clipper yourself.

Remember that ANY puppy is a handful and needs LOT’S of time and patience. (And a good, sturdy crate! lol! ) If you don’t have the time and commitment for a puppy, contact breeders and see if someone has an adult available.

Good luck. Cav’s are a great little breed, but like any dog need love, understanding and patience to be a great family member.

Thanks so much for the info, i am sure this is the dog for me and my family. However, i am finding it hard to find any breeders or anyone selling this breed in my area. Does anyone know where i can buy a puppy or an adult near croydon(town), surrey(county), england(country...duh)?
