you could try spraying apple bitter spray in the box. It will make it taste unappealing, and I’m not sure because I don’t use it, but it might make the litterbox smell nice too, which is nice.
Does the puppy have a crate? If not, you could buy one and cover it will a solid blanket, and she will feel secure and cozy.
I hope this helps!!!!

Your dog will never stay out of the litter box . Eating the cat litter will also make him sick . You need to have the liter box in a room where the dog can not get to it . Try putting up a children’s gate . The cat can jump over it but it will keep the dog out .

Many dog will rolling manure or eat it . Even human feces . That is just the way the are .

Actually, if your pup’s trained, he won’t go into the litterbox.

I brought my cat, Missy, over to my dad’s house for the summer a few years ago. Jake, one of my family’s German Shorthaired Pointers, kept trying to feast on Missy’s feces.

To get him to stop, I’d blow a whistle at him and run towards him whenever I caught him near the litterbox. After doing this about 3 or 4 times, Jake stopped trying to get into the litterbox.

Whenever you see your puppy trying to get into the litterbox, make a loud noise. You can also try squirting him with a spray bottle.

You can use a gate to keep the dog from getting to the litterbox, but I don’t think that’s the best option. I think that’s just covering up the problem. Your pup can learn not to get into the litterbox with some simple training.

My dogs were always into the litter box. Since I am not home 24/7, I moved the box to a hall closet and put a child gate up leaving about 8-10 inches under so the cats can get it but the dogs can’t.. hope this helps.. if it’s not an option for you, can you gate the room where the box is located?

I don’t have that problem, My cat is extreamly territorial over the things that are hers and attacks the dogs if they even go near her litter box. Ace is scared of the litter box and belle hasn’t really tried yet. ha ha.

No, you can not train a dog to stay out of the litter box. You might be able keep him out while you are watching him, if he thinks he will be punished ,but as soon as you leave he will be right back in there eating the poop.

Skullkeeper, you can train a dog to stay out of the litter box.

My family’s dog, Jake, doesn’t get into litter boxes any more, even when he’s not being watched.

It really just depends on the dog. Some dogs will learn that they can get away with things while their owners are gone. Some don’t though. Not all dogs forget about their training when their master’s gone.

If you believe that you can’t get a dog to stay out of the litterbox, you must also believe that you can’t potty train a dog, you can’t get a dog to stop barking, you can’t get a dog to stay off of the couch, etc.

There’s a device you can use when you’re gone. When it detects movement, it starts to beep loudly. You could put one near the litter box so when your puppy approaches it, it beeps.

There are barrier systems you can try. They’re supposed to keep dogs out of off- limit areas. These systems come with a collar and a device that detects the collar. The collar sprays dogs with water when they get too close to the device. So, if you put the device near the litter box, your dog’s chin will get sprayed with water when he appraches. These do tend to be expensive.

I suppose the easiest thing you can do is to get a gate.

the beeper would be a good idea but if it scares the pup away from it it scares the cat away. that means the cat will use the floor lol and i dont think u could find any of those types of collars here if u did find one it wold be very expensive. the collar idea sounds like a great way to keep my cat off my lizard and snakes cages. do u think they sell them for cats?

Oh, right. I forgot about the cat. XD

I bet they sale them for cats. Actually, I think you could use one designed for a dog on your cat.

I used to have a Bearded Dragon. My cat, Missy, would always jump up on the screen that kept the lizard in his cage. She actually discovered how to use her nails to pull up the screen to my lizard’s terrarium. I ended up getting cage clamps, but it didn’t really help. Missy kept trying to get to my lizard, no matter what. I ended up getting ahold of this electrical pad. When the pad’s stepped on, it sends a tad bit of electricity into the one who’s on it. I placed mine on top of my lizard’s terrarium. After stepping on it once, Missy never climbed back on top of the cage again.
I really liked the pad. I know this is weird, but I really liked the sensation I got when I stepped on it. XD

The problem with the idea of a loud noise to deter the dog is it might frighten the cat too . Then you have a problem with the cat not using the litter box . The gate will work. The other ideas wont .

Lol sensho....you’re scaring me now!

Wolfrin,
When you’re around, a spray bottle with lemon juice will work, but anything you use when you’re not there will scare the cat too, so a gate is the best thing to try.
