Invisible fencing?
I suppose I’ll back up a bit. My dog is OBSESSED with me. It’s kind of insane. He gets very bad separation anxiety, which is unfortunate since I go to school and have a part time job. My mom takes him to work most of the time with her and sometimes he stays at home with a doggy door to his own little yard (his bladder is the size of a pea), but he gets so anxious if he isn’t with me, even when he’s with other members of the family. He was hit by a car when my dad had taken him for a walk. He was on a leash, but my dad took it off when they got home. Dog wandered off (he never leaves when I’m home, and never runs away, he just likes to walk around on his own and come home if we accidentally leave the door open). I have lectured my mother time and time again about the door since the accident, but she just gets mad at me about it. She leaves it open CONSTANTLY. So my question is, is a nearly 8 year old mini poodle too old/fragile to train to an invisible fence? I would love to have a safety net around our house to keep him in the yard, especially when we are having bbqs and company over, etc. and the door gets left open a lot. If you have experience with invisible fencing, know where to get a good kind, etc. please let me know! Thanks in advance, Anna |

Anyway, I may see if I can take him to a friend’s house with an invisible fence and get the appropriate collar, etc. and see if it works or if it just freaks him out or if it doesn’t do anything at all. Thanks! |

An 8 year old dog can absolutely learn the ropes of an invisible fence....IF you take the time to properly install it and train the dog. A friend accidentally did it with a completely untrainable 13 year old runner! PM me or ask here if you need details. |

I’ve never personally used invisible fencing, but I’ve heard it works quite well. I’ve heard that some dogs will run out of their invisible fencing though. |

It will not keep other dogs from coming on to your property . It will not work if the electric goes off And it can not keep kids in the yard . |

Quote: Three things I don’t like about an electric fence-
It will not keep other dogs from coming on to your property . It will not work if the electric goes off And it can not keep kids in the yard . 1) I do not need to keep other dogs from coming onto the property. As I said, if you would please read, I would only use the invisible fence when the family is home moving in and out of the yard or when my mom leaves the door open and I just don’t want him to run off. He would never be left outside without supervision. 2) Again, he would never be in the fence while we aren’t home, and he comes when he’s called. If the electricity went off and he happened to be in the invisible fence, we would just pick him up and put him inside. 3) I don’t have kids... Anyway, I think I will probably give it a try. Again, he would never be unattended out there, it would just act as a safety net when my mom leaves the door open or we have company over. I would also never be coming home to greet him through the invisible fence. He has his own real, wooden fence for during the day, it just doesn’t go around the front door, so his eagerness to see me I don’t think would be a problem. I think it might work, but I understand that it might not. Would I be able to return the fence if it didn’t? Thanks for all the info everyone!! |

Quote: Not sure about there, but you can’t return it after it’s been planted unless it’s broke here at both Lows and Home Depote.
Lol, so I’d have to break it? XD |

You wanted some thing to keep your dog from running off when your mother opens the door . Well if the electric is out and she opens the door then the fence will not work now will it ? I realized you are not old enough to have children. I was simply stating my opinion. See you seem to forget that other people read the posts too . I do not know if you could return it . You have to bury the wiring , so it would have to be dug up . I guess you would have to ask about returns where ever you buy it . |
